I'm not *****footing around with a trade that involves Gogo. If he's moving, we need to be packaging a 1st or 2nd and a good prospect to make sure we get something really big in return, IMO.

Gogo is a great asset and has a great future in this league. I'd hate to see us lose him for anything less than a big upgrade (obviously possible through other assets we include).
To me trading Gogo comes down to what happens with Letang and Gonchar. If we are not re-signing Gonch, I'd rather keep Gogo unless the other team really overpays. If Gonch and Letang both sign at reasonable cap hits (and in Gonchar's case I'd rather no more than two years) then I'm all for selling Gogo for help on the wings (but not for a UFA).

Hamhuis is very likely not moving. The Preds are trying to make the playoffs. They've even come out and said guys like Hamhuis, Ellis and Rinne aren't going to be moved out, even though their contracts are up.

I think we have to set our sights lower on defense. I think we'll try to land someone like Aaron Ward, Jason Strudwick, Brendan Witt, Garnet Exelby...that type. And I'm fine with that. It won't cost much at all to get one of these guys. I'd aim for Strudwick, personally.

I really don't think we're trading Goligoski unless we're getting another blue-liner back...and I don't know if Shero wants to do a multi-player trade and break up too much of his Cup team.

Witt has another year left on his deal... doubt the Pens are interested in him.

Karlis Skrastins, 1,375,000 for this and next year.

Skrastins is just a slightly more expensive and older Mckee.

You think McKee is going to sign for less than $1.3 this summer?

my one-shop vote goes to Phoenix. Peter Mueller and Zbynek Michalek. We should send them feds to give Phoenix some veteran leadership for the playoffs. ofc we have to add something more, but i would start with feds and go from there.

The way he's playing... yes. I think he's playing as a 1.0M 6th defenseman.

Realistically, these players play themselves into their next contract. No way anyone is shelling out more than 1.3 for McKee and thinks it's a great investment.

Rejean needs to somehow get me Setoguchi without giving up Letang or Staal.

I just have a gut feeling that we are going to see Shero pull the trigger on some stuff. I have no idea why. I just thing there are pieces out there to be had that can really help this team be a front runner again this year, that won't take an arm and a leg to get.

I wouldn't be surprised. I also wouldn't be surprised if he went small (Sutton and Torres for example).

I'll change it to Caviar Dreams if we don't repeat this year, k?

I love the Hejda idea - more than any other defenseman we could get at the deadline, all things considered. He's exactly the sort of big, physical, steady defensive presence we could really use on the back end, and he's signed for another year at a great price.

Agreed about Hejda, but because of all the factors you just said, if I was Howson there is no way I'm parting with Hejda for anything less than a 1st rounder or a 2nd and prospects. He defintiely has higher value than Ray Whitney in my mind right now.

Exactly why CLB doesn't really have any incentive to move him - unless a team overpays (ie 1st rounder). I'm sure they are fully expecting to be back in the playoffs next year, not rebuilding.

I'd pay a low 1st for him. Hell, we gave a 2nd and a 5th for Hal Gill, and he was only better than terrible at one thing.

Hejda was a Hitchcock creation. He loved using Hejda on his shutdown pairing. I worry that he may not be as good as when he played under Hitchcock, though admittedly I have not watched him play since they fired Hitch.

Every time I've seen Hejda play, he's been less physical than Gill. But there's no question he has shutdown capability.

Can't agree with giving up our first rounder for Jan Hejda, though. His cap hit is reasonable for next year ($2M), but he turns 32 in June. Not really the type of player I'd give a first rounder for.

Shero has already said we're not making any moves until after the Olympics. We are one of the teams that have to save every penny leading up to the deadline. In fact, I'm sure we won't do anything until deadline day...just to save an extra day's salary of whomever we acquire.

But I do expect 3-5 deals before Friday's deadline around the NHL.

boynton cleared both regular and recall waivers in the past week, so not a single team put a claim in for him.

Yes go to Capgeek.com

On the right you'll see three categories you can use for these things.
-Cap Calculator-use this to edit a roster and see how much it would cost.
-Salary Cap Charts-shows you the cap situation of a team, updated day to day and figures in bonuses and everything.
-Daily Tracker-shows players overall salary, how much they have left, and thier "Daily Cap Hit". Take that number for the player and multiply it by 39, the number of days left after the deadline.
I think you can also change the date to March 3rd and generate it that way.
