I could definitely see Howson interested in Gilbert.

Fact is, we need to trim salary somehow...if we can't move Souray or Staios then Gilbert may have to go...although I'd prefer to keep him over Grebeshkov.

I guess it depends if he's still on the outs with Columbus management. I doubt he is, but if he is, the Oilers should be doing everything to get him over here. He would make the potential forward corps insanely scary with MPS, Eberle, Hall/Seguin. All these players have different strengths.
Agreed. Realistically he'd be the guy I'd target and it wouldn't surprise me if the Blue Jackets made him available for similar reasons why the Thrashers moved Cormier. The offensive upside in our system would be absurd if we could land him though I have no idea what else it would take because Gilbert straight up obviously wouldn't do it.

I'd like Brassard, maybe something like

To Clb: Gilbert
To Edm: Brassard

I like Gilbert...... But I would prefer to watch two Russians (Filatov & Grebeshkov) on an Edmonton Oilers rebuilding team...

And considering that Howsen would probably prefer to trade for a guaranteed contract......

Not enough raab. We'd need to add more to get Brassard too.

I agree with others here - Filatov is our guy. Perhaps we trade Gilbert and throw in our up and coming Russian (Horcov) for Filatov.

How about:
Gilbert + Cogs
Filatov + 2nd

Gilbert for Torres, then trade Lubo to LA for Stoll/Greene.

Naw, they need to keep Gilbert. I'd send them Grebs and/or Souray no problem, though.

I know Filatov struggled in his brief time with the Jackets, but would they really give him up? He is far from a bust yet.

They arent moving Brassard. They are weak at center. He is going nowhere.

Do you think they should wait until he is a bust and then try and get rid of him?

We'll see, maybe if he came over with guys like MPS, Eberle, Hall, and perhaps Jagr he'd change his mind about going back to Russia.

I don't know, if they're going to trade him anyway, I'd prefer it to be to the Oilers.

Filatov is putting up the same ppg as Hudler except doing it in 4 minutes less per game, with weaker linemates, and at age 19, not 26.

This guy is the real deal. There is no way that he should be available in a trade unless Howson feels jilted. If we can get him for anything less than Hemsky or our #1 pick, then we should.

I think people here are over valuing Gilbert or undervaluing CBJ players.

The player we need to get is Voracek. He's big and skilled and would fit on the 2nd line nicely.

I was thinking something like this.

Gilbert and Cogliano for Voracek and Methot.

This gives them a top 4 puckmover and a potential top 6 forward to replace Voracek. The Oil get a stay at home guy to take some minutes and a bigger top 6 forward to help deal with the smurfitis that has hit the oilers forward core.

Any deal that doesn't fit into a longterm rebuild is pointless. Commodore, Huselius, Paulsson, even Hejda, what's the point? Do you think we are going to win it next year? The guys the oilers should be trying to get are the young guys whose value is currently low b/c of off seasons - like Filatov, Voracek, Brassard, Russell, Methot. Of course, Columbus isn't going to give them away for free, so we may have to give up a younger guy like Gilbert or Grebshkov and/or take an overpaid vet like Commodore back. If we try to fob one of our overpaid vets on them we WILL have to take back an overpaid vet. Still, it might be a way to reduce the payroll by 1-3 million for next year.

Gilbert + Cogs for Filatov + Salary would be an awesome trade. Even if Filatov doesn't really fit in with our top 6 (yet another smallish skilled forward) he would be a valuable asset we could either try out or flip for something else. Plus we get to dump Gilbert's medicore contract.

how about gilbert and POS/Nillson for Blunden Picard and Jurcina. Oil gets bigger and have a couple of top six potential and a number 4-5 Dman with size. the CBJ aren't going to trade any of there young guys currently playing on there team so this maybe the best they could get.

if the oilers trade for husalius--unless they are sending Horcoff for him--I will fly back and stomp some sense into Tambo

They all look like LW's as well(except Seguin), plus we already have Nilson, Penner, Omark, O'sullivan as LW's.

I thought we were going to model DET not Dal

I would think he is the most expendable piece they have that carries any value. They need a puck moving d man and center badly. It wouldnt surprise me to see him moved. I just dont really think he fits our needs either. So why would we trade for him. We need physical d, center and goalie help. He is none of those.

That would make painfully obvious sense, which means it's 50/50 that the Oilers will do it.

There is a reason why in EA NHL video games Huselius' name is pronounced...Useless.

Zeros across the board.

Filatov though...that would be a great rebuild chip.
