Did anyone notice we had three forwards on the ice to start the 4-on-4? It was Whitney-Staal and Pitkanen-Cullen.

EDIT: Pitkanen-Cullen were also out on the ice together when the GWG was scored.

What a play by Sutter. Creating the pressure, then making the pass.

Too bad Samsonov made me insert my foot into my mouth.

That felt amazingly awesome!!!

We totally outplayed the Slugs and deserved that win. I was exceedingly impressed with the effort shown by our boys tonight. Since we don't get any good feelings come playoff time, I'm thrilled we get some now...

I know Tripp said Staal was playing well despite getting a point, but I'd have to disagree with him. Staal looked like he was floating for most of the game.

And I don't expect that to change on Saturday. It looked like Staal's taken his Olympic break early, which is fine. Not happy about it, but I'd rather have him take 2 games off here than perform poorly in the Olympics.

Watching them beat yet another playoff team frustrates me to no end. Ok, so Buffalo was struggling and they took advantage of it, just like they've done with quite a few teams recently. But so were Edmonton and Calgary. If they won those two games they'd be sitting at 57 points right now riding a 10 game winning streak and sitting only 6 behind 7th/7 behind 6th with a game in hand.

I agree with you Blue for the first 1/2 of the game. In the first period, Staal looked like he was hung over. Couldn't win a face off, wiffing on passes, no speed, not physical.

Part way thru the 2nd period, that changed. He was winning faceoffs, was very strong on the puck, strong in corners, skating hard. I thought he played very poorly the first part (1/3 to 1/2) of the game..but very strong the remainder.

EDIT: Also, I thought Pitkanen was off. A few bad turn-overs in our zone, a number of passes in the skates of the forwards, etc...

Buffalo was TERRible. And they're what...5th in the East?! How the hell did that happen. I swear, if they didn't have Miller, they would be outpacing Carolina for dead-last in the league. Their defense can't move the puck out of their zone to save their lives. If they didn't have Tyler Myers, they would have nothing at all. Who among their forwards have an ounce of skill...Roy, Connolly, and Vanek...and they even sucked. You'd think they've got a bunch of good players out with injuries, but Kaleta (DaveG's favorite!) is the only one out.

THE SABRES ARE TERRIBLE.

I feel sorry for their fans.

Why can our team make good outlet passes now?
Why can our team transition through the neutral zone in an organized manner now?
Why can our team consistently enter the zone without dumping and chasing now?
Why can our team consistently use creativity and make tape to tape passes now?

I NEED ANSWERS.

Nothing better than beating the Panthers and Slugs at home over the course of three days! <3

One other comment from the game. It sure is nice to see Corvo back. His skating ability, ability to move the puck, etc.. is really noticeable when breaking out of the zone. I realize he isn't overly physical in the Canes Zone, but his ability to move the puck, skate, etc....and still get back really is a plus.

Indeed. Corvo was actually hitting the net today. What's up with that?

In all seriousness...this screams of lack of preparation entering the season. I realize injuries have play some part in this....but it is obvious to me these guys weren't prepared at the start of the season. Then injuries added on to that.

That was a fun one to be at tonight. Just one of the better atmospheres of the season but that was flat out one of the sloppier games of the season. That said, I'm just not sure how Buffalo is 5th in the East. Miller is great and Myers is as good as advertsied, but shy of that I really can't figure this one out. Frustrating to see the team putting it together now, but that's not necessarily a bad thing with the roles that young guys such as Sutter, Carson, Tlusty (yeah I know he's in the AHL right now) and the Finland Trio have been playing. We have some nice building blocks for the future.

And yes, I wouldn't mind bringing Whitney or Cullen back, but it would have to be one or two year deals for decent money.

He's starting to get his game back. That's good news for the trade deadline. We can bring him back too to be honest.

Yeah...I agree. I love when Buffalo comes to town as the crowd is always much more lively and the atmosphere is always better (even better when the Canes win). I though the first was VERY sloppy..but the game tightened up some as it went on.

I agree. They have a bunch of players who seem to be under-performing on the whole (Stafford, Vanek, Roy) so I am not sure how they are where they are.

What's better than beating Buffalo? Beating them twice in a week

Tons of slugs in the house, but they were fairly quiet after the game got tied. They were even quieter when they saw they were the losers. Hopefully we can do it again on March 11th.

I'm gonna miss that Whitney and Cullen. And like others I'd take them back as long as the price is right.

Sutter burned Buffalo. They double teamed Staal, but forgot Sutter.
