The first paragraph of the Panthers announcement makes me puke. Why can't we have a front office like this, read open to medias? Seriously we are in the 21st century for God's sake.

Dear Fans,

Based on our commitment to accessibility, we would like to take this opportunity to give you some insight into our hockey club’s strategy moving forward. After consulting with General Manager Randy Sexton and Head Coach Pete DeBoer, it is clear that our team, the way it is currently structured, is not equipped to meet the goals and objectives that we have set for ourselves, our fans and our partners.

With Florida throwing in the towel, I have to believe the Rangers' dive to the bottom five is going to be less likely.

Unfortunately.

This is probably the best thing for Florida in years, providing Sexton can actually rebuild it worth a damn
Same with Rangers sans fire sale.

Think the traded players are going to be pissed at that? Ouch.
I would think the fact that they were just traded should be enough to make that clear to any of those players.

That's entirely the point I was making.

Teams cannot practice for much of the Olympic break. I believe it is 10 days they have forced absence.

And one thing re: Florida. One guy I'd love to see in NY is Keith Ballard. Really underrated defenseman. If they are really going to back up the truck, I'd like to know what it would take to bring him to New York.

Totally agree.

I think hes due some pretty decent money so I'd think that hes a guy they'd be looking to move. He'd be a massive upgrade from the R and R show we've been watching for the past 2 seasons.

Hell yes I would love to get Ballard. Rangers would need to move someone like Rozsival, though

He says the Rangers and Oilers could be involved in MAJOR DEALS!

Kind of funny, I look at the Oilers teams and can't see anyone I'd want the Rangers to trade for, outside of Gagne with the idea of straightening him out into a productive player.

I know those guys are young but the numbers just aren't there...does this team really need more 3rd/2nd line tweeners who can't reliably be counted on to score goals?

edit: if you could get them for a song and dance, sure, but giving up anything of value seems pointless

Cogliano has hit rock bottom in Edmonton. I think the game before last night he had TOI of 6:00 or so. Worth taking a shot at him, though.

I'd love O'Sullivan. Cogliano reminds me of dubinsky but faster. Doesnt mean I wouldnt take him. I dont think they'd trade Gagner. Hemsky please? lol i know pipe dream.

I wonder if something like Rozy+Sangs+2011 1st for Ballard and a forward (not one of the stars) might work. Ballard has 5 years at $4.2MM but at least he plays like a $4.2MM defenseman.

Souray is overpaid and a one trick pony, plus he gets injured all the time.

Strudwick is a 7th defenseman. Who gives a ****

Yeah I know, but they're likely more available than Gagner at this point. Edmonton will try to unload them first with their Vets. I would take a risk on Cogs eventually, he's only 22. But yeah, all depend what we send the other way. No way I would trade now a Dubinsky or a Callahan for Cogliano.

Wow. Talk about a guy that had one amazing season and one decent season drying up into next to nothingness. 56 goals. What does he have this year? 5 or 6? Go figure.

(Edit) I'd pick him up off waivers. Why not?
