Lombardi already told Hammond he has no interest in anyone on waivers. Could be lying, but I doubt it.

I'm loving that so many people think their teams are interested. I hope they are right.

I bet he clears though.

Ugh, I really feel bad for this guy. His effort is unbelievable, but his skills haven't been the best. I really hope another team picks him up. Sometimes, Cheech gets the worst of luck. He got ROBBED by kipur the other day in Calgary. Hopefully, he doesn't hurt himself again

Cheechoo is the Adam Graves of the past decade. One 50+ goal year surrounded by a few 20/30 goal seasons followed by a quick drop-off.

I agree that giving all the credit to Thornton is oversimplified. On the flip-side Thornton never centered for another 50 goal scorer and never reached more than 110 points with another winger.

Youtube it

I'd give him a chance next to Savard in Boston, but it's not happening, imho

Only 5 goals this year? Damn, his career has fallen off big time from the rocket year.

Michalek was the centerpiece of that deal, Cheechoo was a salary dump/reclamation, moreso salary dump though.

Same here. That would be awesome for the Sens really. If anything it would be on re-entry.

I would still love him as a Sen but not at that cap hit, sorry Cheech.

How does this happen? Man, I thought this guy was gonna be a star in the NHL, and poof, there it goes....This could be the kick in the groin to get him re-motivated, ala Briere a couple of years back. A team that takes a chance on him, is really out nothing at all...

They didn't. They traded him for Michalek and Cheechoo was thrown in to make the cap work.

To be honest, he should have about 15 goals. I can't think of how many posts hes hit. Hes actually had a nice few scoring chances also

if someone picks him up off waivers they need to put him on a top line with a really good passing center and let try and snipe....if they do that i bet chech becomes a 25-35 goal scorer again...he will never be a 50+ goal guy again but i can definitly see him being very productive with a playmaker....i really hope he gets another chance and areal chance not 4th line duty

Playing with Thornton and Spezza isn't enough for the guy? Look he is done. He will be bought out and will never get another contract.

And I remember last trade deadline San Jose fans wouldn't trade him straight up for Chris Neil. Said he had more value.

You've got to feel bad for this guy. If he gets put on re-entry waivers, he will get claimed, IMO.

Ought to go to the Pens on a re-enter trade. Could become huge next to Sid. And if not, then no big loss for the Pens. They have no wingers as is.

IF that is the case, I just became that much more of a fan of the Senators.

Very classy move.

It is sad, but I'm curious, do you think it was more the problem of his psychological condition than his physical?

Players with less than 160 games receive the maximum pension benefit under Canadian law; players with more than 160 games receive the maximum pension benefit under US law (currently $45,000 per year)

Edit: Had to take out my CBA for that one.
