What he really needs to do is take a year away from the game, re-hab his injuries to the fullest extent possible, recondition himself and give it another shot. The guy has loads of talent and a bullet shot when healthy, so there's no excuse for him being cast off at age 29. Here's hoping he gets healthy or another team takes a chance on him.

Also, that video is awesome

I hope some teams to take Cheechoo. Islanders imo.
The Hurricanes are the kings of the reclamation project. I could see it working for them.

And that doesnt mean Heatley is a negative for other teams, but this year, for us, he would have been. This team isnt leading the division if he is still here.
Your right you probably wouldn't be leading the division .. you would be leading the conference....still a bone headed trade if u ask me and the cheechoo waiver is just adding to it.

Well then at least half of his goals had to do with Thornton, which means that Cheechoo is a 2nd/3rd line tweener without him.

It sucks that players like this cant renegotiate thier contracts to take less money, so that they could continue to play in the NHL and not be the center of so much crap.

Do you think if given the choice a player like him(or would he) take less money if it didnt mean being embarrased or going to the AHL?(not that theres anything wrong with playing in the AHL)

The Heatley deal gave us a very good contract in MM who will score 30-35 goals, I know not as good as Heatley but it's decent. MM also brings an injection of speed that was desperatly needed and a very good defensive skill set.

Now that Cheechoo is gone we also open up an additional 3.0 in cap space.

It's working out as a very solid deal should we use that cap space to our advantage.

I agree with this. I think Cheechoo would gladly take 1 million and a 3rd/4th line role in the NHL as opposed to the A, and to be honest, I'd definitely keep him around at that price. But at 3 million, you just can't.

Too bad for SJ that seems to happen as often as Haley's Comet zips by.

25-35 goal scorers are not 2nd/3rd line tweeners.

He's lost his game somehow. His 3 million cap hit for this year and next won't be very appealing to any g.m IMO. Maybe on re entry but he's also back loaded

Strongly disagree. I'm sure he'd take a paycut to stay in the bigs, but not $2 million less when he makes $3 million. He'll be fine in the Bing w/ his multi millions.

because theres a lot of third liners putting up 30+ goals a season. Gag me.

He was a solid second/first line sniper pp guy on pretty much every team in the NHL until he got hurt. He was putting up goals without a set up man until JT got to San Jose. He put up 28 Goals pretty much on his own before he had a center. He put up 56 then 37, got hurt and fell off a rock.

He was a terrible skater to begin with and to lose more of that ability is a death warrant in todays NHL.

keep in mind to that Cheechoo just recently played his 500th game. Ottawa may have waited for him to play that game so he gets his full pension incase he doesn't get picked up. It would also explain why he wasn't a scratch at all this year, when he probably should have been. Classy move by Murray if thats the case.

Makes me sick to see this happen, but for Ottawa, it just had to.

Looks like the rest of this season is a write-off for Cheech. Maybe he can show some flair in the A with lesser talent?

That said, I'd love to see him in Teal come July 1 for 850K.

I could see Nashville pick him up on re-entry. As stated by other Preds fans, if Barry Trotz can get 10 goals out of Tootoo and Smithson, what could he do with Cheechoo?

No re-entry waivers for Cheechoo IMO. He'll clear, be sent to Bingo and be added to the Sens playoff roster when it expands for the post-season.

A good move by the Sens as much as I like Cheechoo as a player, he's not good enough and now the Sens add some serious cap space to acquire a D-man.

Pension kicks in at 400 games not 500

Like Hamhuis.... Got a spare goalscoring forward you care to share?

Not sure if I'd trade him though.

Cheechoo hits re-entry, there is no way the Burke lets him pass by. Unless Edmonton is interested, the Leafs will make this move.
