So your saying that he needs better players around him to make him more successful?

Im pretty sure the difference is:

Kane, Carter & Neal (we can agree to disagree on this one) … Make people around them better, rather than players around them making them better.

With your Theory- with Hemky in the lineup – Horcoff now becomes worth his 5 million dollars as he could potentially have 60 points this year. Lol.

does it really matter? As long as they are producing and getting points I really don't care. Like another poster mentions....chemistry it is all about chemistry.

And Penner is still getting Points and Goals without Hemsky, with him in the line up he would be just that much better!

while i would prefer dumping other contracts before penner, i would be fine with unloading penner if the return is right... let's not forget that he is still a big cap hit and really has only had half a good season here... don't get me wrong, i think he's a great player and will probably be money in the playoffs, but the playoffs are so far away for this team it's worth worrying about.

if the trade Penner, it'd better be more than Kelly+Lee coming back.

I would expect at least Kelly+Cowen.

Same thing with Horcoff and his shoulder then knee.

Injuries do ruin careers, or make players much less effective--this is hardly a novel idea.

Penner has never played this much in his career. He's close to 20 minutes per night as compared to 15+ minutes last season.

I mean why not take this guy, give us POTENTIALLY some help up front for the rest of the season. If the guy succeeds or fails it doesn't matter since were in no position to win. Who knows maybe he can teach our kids a thing or two

It is interesting to see an organization with the Cheechoo move admit so quickly to a move/trade they made has went sour. Then they immediately act to help correct or minimize the damage of that move and just ignore the optics.

Bob McKenzie said that Lundmark was claimed by the Leafs while May and Cheechoo both cleared waivers.

Also, Valiquette is on re-entry waivers.

Exactly. With these 16 days of rest, I believe he's going to continue his play like he did in the first 40ish games.

Ya but the optics aren't that bad. The SJS trade was the second choice trade from OTT's perspective and Heatley's obstinance was the obvious cause. Another big difference is that Ottawa is an actual contender. In contrast and AHL contract losing that the Oilers do should not take place until next fall.

Would be a smart move, allowing the team to put there game of minor league goalie ping pong on hold for a while.

I guess we just disagree then. I think the optics are still bad enough. Judging by many people's reactions to the news he was on waivers. A few others seem to agree to some extent.

I hope you are right. I am still in the I will believe it when it actually happens on the demoting vet players and/or sizable contracts to the minors. I have seen nothing to indicate so far our management team is willing to do so (our owner might be though). But it will be interesting to see what happens.

How soon we forget, I'm sure a couple of oiler fans thought the same, penner was not a popular man on these boards

So does anybody think that Toronto picking up Lundmark means that there's no chance they will consider Moreau?

They'll still look for more forwards. I mean when your playing 2 defenseman up front and doing emergency call ups from junior theres gotta be room for at least 2 more forwards. I'm suprised they haven't signed any free agents such as Jeff Hamilton or so
