Waivers - Cheechoo put on waivers by Sens

Waiver wire is active today. After playing in his 500th game the other night, Cheechoo was one of the casualties this morning. Sad for most of us to see a player whose body wouldn't cooperate with his bigger heart. Hopefully he finds a team for the rest of the year but that is a big question given his salary.

Zach Boslett just informed me that Murray now has placed Jonathan Cheechoo on waivers. Not a surprising move for a forward who has been nothing but a disappointment since arriving in Ottawa.
Brad May was also waived this morning and there are likely to be more casualties as the day moves forward.

Would you take him back at $1.5 million?

Edit: hmmm... it would be even less than that right?

If he changed his game a bit perhaps he could be a bottom 6 forward, I think most teams out there still expect him to be a 50+ goal guy, which isn't going to happen with the amount of injuries he's had.

I can see him being a solid 4th and 3rd liner... but who knows

I think he'd be awesome with Nichol and Ortmeyer

very sad for Cheech overall - i hope he regains his confidence and scoring touch and makes it back in the NHL some day.

IMO - I'm surprised the Sens didn't do this way sooner.

PS no i don't want him back in Teal unless it's an AHL contract.

Less than $1.5 this year, but you would have to eat his $3MM salary next year before he becomes a UFA. That's a tough pill to swallow. He's going to be back in the AHL and is going to stay there through the end of his contract period.

Oh... I actually forgot to even consider next year.

Maybe because this year seems like 2012 for the Sharks.

I may be incorrect on this, but I think next year the Sharks woud have to pay $1.5 million.

Would you rather have Cheech or Nolan for the 3rd or 4th line?

Only if he was on re-entry waivers.

Picking him on on "regular" waivers means the Sharks are responsible for his full salary (for this season and next), and/or buyout.

Sorry, I thought it was assumed we would get him on re-entry and not regular waivers.

why would anyone consider having Cheech back in teal - his game has gone to **** with all due respect and he'd add little to no value for allot of cap space.

If it was on re-entry, I'd take it.

Take him back DW!

If he comes back up, a $1.5 million Cheech is awesome.

Poor Cheech.

I always rooted for him. Great person, gave 110%. The mind was willing but the legs couldn't keep up.

I guess I was incorrect in assuming that he'd be claimed at 50% of his salary and cap hit. Sounds like from what LadyStanley said, this is not the case?

If it were at a hit of $1.5, he's still got some value.
