Great PP QB, and awesome puck mover. Pretty solid defense too man, you're getting a stud. CHI is seriously in way more amazing shape than it was. IMO, you guys owned this trade.
The biggest mistake this club made was not having enough money set aside to sign Johnsson and letting him walk away. The defense took such a huge hit when he left. He was supposed to be Pitkanen's mentor and he was supposed to be the guy who could get Pitkanen back on track and the Flyers let him walk because he suffered a concussion - the first in his career. It still aggravates me to this day that Johnsson isn't a Flyer......

Johnsson was such a great player when he was here. I have no idea what hes like now, but he was very good on the PP and he was a great outlet passer and those two aspects usually don't take a hit due to age.
how did he look when he played for Philly is a non-trap system?
for anyone who remembers?
He was a solid performer and the fact that he was injured for the 2006 playoffs, against a speedy Buffalo team, damaged the Flyers chances significantly. He was hurt in a game in January of that season, came back briefly when a concussion was ruled out, and then was shut down when he experienced what was later diagnosed as a concussion. He was an UFA and his asking price $4m+ which the club refused because of the uncertainty of the injury .
Hi brain wasn't mush. He was ready to play in the post season and the team held him out, even when the doctors had cleared him to play. There was no intention at all by the Flyers to re-sign Johnsson. It was one of Clarke's real bad moves that he made.
The unresolved Keith Primeau situation was very restrictive that summer. Not knowing if he was going to play. Attempting a comeback. The September 1 decision day.

His agent was also asking WAY too much money for him, which Clarke refused to pay.

Why would you try to re-sign Johnsson when you had Rathje and Hatcher?
The Kim Johnsson who played here was a lot better than the Kim Johnsson now because Jacques Lemaire took a solid all-star caliber two-way defenseman and turned him into strictly a shutdown player, which he wasn't truly suited for. I'm hoping that Chicago finds the player of old, because he was not just willing and able, but allowed to do a lot more things. His contract was not out of line considering where Hatcher and Rathje were as old NHL dinosaurs, but Johnsson looks overpaid because Lemaire kept the reigns on him. He was paid to be their #1 and their esteemed coach decided to hold him back as a role playing defenseman. For someone you're paying almost $5M, that is simply retarded, and it's going to cost him on his upcoming contract.

I don't remember it that way.
I thought Johnsson was cleared to play but he never felt comfortable coming back that season. I believe his wife had a child during the season and he wasn't in a rush to get back. The Flyers were hesitant to put out $4MM + for d man that may have concussion issues or be hesitant to play because of his concussion.
Either way, he was a solid and sometimes spectacular dman. Very steady. I loved him and Ragnarssson.

He didn't get cleared to play until after our season was over, but it was during the playoffs. Clarke wanted to re-sign him, but he didn't want to commit the money to someone who was coming off of a concussion.

I saw him in maybe 30 games with the wild and he always seemed uncomfortable. I agree, LeMaire really had him hamstrung. Hopefully, he can find his game again.
