Crankshaft and Sweden trail 2-0 midway...
Canadian fans are giddy at the very real possibility their team won't have to face Sweden, but a much less intimidating Slovak club.

The Kapanen line, with Miettinen and Hagman was great, they should prove troublesome for USA too. I just hope Team USA doesn't have anyone scouting the games so you guys don't know to pressure Kukkonen on our D.

Refs weren't the sharpest in the FIN-CZE game, they called everything in the first, nothing in the last two periods.

Oh snap, the Slovaks!

I think Slovakia was way underrated coming into this tournament (I mean, Gaborik and Chara are both potential game changers), good for them making it to the semis, I think I will pull for them to get a medal.

The Sharks should trade for Halak...

Absolutely insane game. I really wanted the Swedes (even though I'm a quarter Finn), but it was a great ending.

I herd he was available along with a winger and a draft pick for Marleau a couple years ago.

Vancouver Medal Count Projections: Day 13

Vancouver Medal Count Projections: Day 13
by FiveThirtyEight.com @ 1:04 AM

The U.S. picked up a couple of bronzes that weren't necessarily expected today, particularly the medal in the women's short-track relay. But, just as importantly in the race for the podium, Germany failed to medal in some places where they'd been widely expected to -- most notably women's bobsled, where some forecasters had Germany earning two medals and they were in fact shut out. The U.S. now projects to win the overall medal count 34-30. Canada, whose projected total of 26 medals is lower than the 28 that the U.S. already has, is probably out of the running in the overall medals table, but remains the reasonably strong favorite to emerge with the most golds.

I wanted to see Murray blow up Perry again. DAMMIT.
Three Sharks going home empty handed. Five still fighting for the podium.

If they did, he'd just go out and give up 7 to the Canadians Friday.

I had to miss this last night... that's shocking to me.

kinda weird that no one seems to care on the main boards, and there isn't much surprise expressed in the media. I think this is the biggest upset of the Olympics.

Russia had weaknesses and they were pretty obvious - so that didn't shock me. But I figured Sweden to do a lot better than this?

God, hearing about Lindsey Vonn is so annoying. Don't most athletes try to play down their injuries and not make excuses? I'm so sick of hearing about her booboos. It almost makes me prefer the hockey method of not telling anyone anything about injuries.

I have to say this post in the Sweden/Slovakia game thread had me laughing pretty damn hard. It summed it up perfectly.

NBC Schedule has the US Game at 3:00PM PT on NBC and indicates it's gonna be live. Canada game to be at 6:00PM PT, but does not indicate live. Anyone else have other information contradicting this?

Medal Count Update: Canada inches into 4th.

MEDAL STANDINGS

791228
810725
66618
76215
34613
