I can't see the guy signing here for that little amount. He's getting older and doesnt have many good contracts left, gotta make this one count.

Isn't he still getting money from his buyout from Tampa?

I feel like he would sign a smaller contract because he is still getting paid from Tampa and he seems to love NY and plays for the love of the game and not the all mighty dollar.

No player gets to this level without having a "love of the game". And I don't think wanting to get paid what you are worth or what the market says you are worth means that you don't love the game. He might take a small discount to play here beyond his current deal, if he's not traded by then, but he will not leave 1-2 million on the table because he loves it here. Not at his age and the time he has left.
