I had hoped that we would get Kim Jonsson. That won't happen now. I have heard rumours that we're after Stephane Robidas. Hope that's true as he'd be a great fit on the team.

If it's an UFA then Kubina, Zidlicky, Seidenberg, Hamhuis and Leopold are really the only options. However, the idea of Robidas is intriguing, but most likely unrealistic.

Milan Jurcina is likely available.

I hear that Randy Jones is available for a 6th or 7th rounder...

lebda. detroit has cap issues and lebda is a solid, experienced guy with a lot of playoff experience. sure, he isn't the physical 5-6 crease-clearer, but i'm sure he would do a competent job and could be had for not a lot.

Kubina is a guy i would really like to get. A solid top 4 guy that we can push down to the 5ht spot who is a UFA at teh end of the year...

Ideally the Sens need to acquire a guy that is normally a top 4 that can push Campoli out of his 6th spot and is also a UFA at season's end...

Dan Girardi seems like a low risk, high reward option. Probably not the guy to bolster the blueline, but I think he could develop into a Preissing/Corvo type for the Sens.

Ruslan Salei would definitely be available for a pick (2nd at the very highest, likely 3rd though)

In a small role like that he could be very helpful, he has a good shot on the powerplay if utilized, can land some hard checks, and is very good defensively if he doesn't have a huge workload or isn't expected to take on the other team's best guys. He's a UFA. The only issue he's been injured all year and there's no telling how he'll perform after surgery etc. However, keep an eye on him in the Olympics for an indicator, he could also be playing tonight for Colorado.

That said, Colorado may as well stick with their 2 extra NHL d-men, rather than trade them away unless they can improve the team for THIS season. You can never have too many NHL ready guys down the stretch, you never know when or what injuries will occur.

Hmm, could anybody go for a Preissing / Cheechoo swap about now?

Cheechoo = $3M next season, UFA
vs.
Preissing = $2.75M next season, UFA

Hahaha, no thanks to Cheechoo. You guys can have Preissing for future considerations, but it's up to you to fit him under the cap.

I really wish Jason Smith didn't retire. He would of been perfect for this season.

If we take Liles, Colorado will need to take Cheechoo.

Yah, I figured as much. Id imagine the Sens would have to throw in some compensation , like an additional pick or prospect to offset Cheechoo's salary.

Here's my blockbuster:

Cheechoo, Lee and O'Brien for Svatos, Liles and Tucker

How crazy would it be to see Darcy Tucker in a Sens uniform?

2 problems...
1) $4M out and $8M in, which I don't think we can swing.
2) We have 15 forwards right now and your deal makes it 16.

Lee's being shopped as part of any package Ottawa deals for a defencemen.

I think Ottawa's hoping to look a little bigger than some of these posts are assuming. Not saying there gonna get it, but by the sounds of it Murray was in fact talking to Dallas about Robidas which may have just been that, talk. But the Ballard speculation was interesting as well.

I think he'll take a rental as well, but I think hes hoping for someone thats good for at least another year.

We have Lee, Kelly/Winchester/Shannon, prospect not named Weircioch, Cowen, Petersson, ZSmith, Lehner and Silfverberg (cheap I know). Dont think he wants to deal another pick but its not out of the realm of possibility a 2nd or 3rd could be on the table as well. Those are the ideal peices we can part with and not worry too much.

For someone like Robidas youd have to understand Dallas isnt parting easily with a nicely signed defencemen that barring injury could be a part of the best defensive group in the world. You'd have to think Foligno/Regin, 1st, and Weircioch come into play. Which Im not sure if I like.

Regardless I think its obvious we have the tools to make atleast a noticeable upgrade on D taking Campoli out of the starting 6. Thatd be a pretty strong group.

Defenseman for Senators

Bryan Murray has stated that after acquiring Matt Cullen and waiving Cheechoo, his next task will be to try and acquire a D man. Who might that be? All proposals, speculations, prognostications and rumors are welcome!

Targets:

Ruslan Salei (3.025, UFA)
Stephane Robidas (1.5, 2010, 3.3 2010-2014)
JM Liles (4.2, 2012)
Keith Ballard (4.2, 2015)
Dan Hamhuis (2.0, UFA)

For Salei:
3rd rounder

For Robidas:
Lee, O'Brien, 2nd

For Liles and 5th:
Cheechoo and Lee

For Ballard:
Kelly, Lee, 4th

For Hamhuis:
Lee, 2nd

At least that's my take on it. I had a hard time valuing these guys though so I feel like this may be off. Everything can be added to and worked around, these are kinda just general ideas based on the rumours I heard.
