So who starts?

I've not heard anything lately about who's going to get the nod versus Tampa tomorrow. Has shutting down Emery worked or are we destined to keep on with Leighton?

Leighton.

Don't worry, I'm sure Emery will be absolutely fine.

Leighton.

According to this:

http://www.philly.com/dailynews/spor...iver_wire.html

Quote:
Ray Emery is still nursing a hip injury that has kept him out of action since Feb. 1. Emery did not skate over the Olympic break, leaving the spot in the Flyers' net to Michael Leighton.

Leighton definitely. Although I'm terrified, he hasn't played in a long time.

No real goalie for 10 years is indeed extreme.

Now i'm just plain concerned. They talked up his rest like it was no big deal and a precaution. Now he's had the rest....and he's still no better.

The Emery gamble seems to have failed, but for entirely different reasons to how we expected it to.

Not really.

People have been posting for months (literally) about the less than 40 games in each of the past 2 seasons and Emery's injury history makes injuries pretty likely.

Sad that Internet posters can predict what our esteemed GM can't.

I wonder if it would be possible for a team to do a GM by committee...

One of Bill Simmons' greatest ideas (which several NBA teams have adopted) is to have a VP of Common Sense in team management.

The Flyers really could have used one for this goaltending situation.

Somebody should have laid out the facts.

1) Emery has been known to be a....volatile...locker room presence.
2) Emery has only had 1 good NHL season.
3) Emery has some injury history.
4) Emery had good numbers in Russia, but the other goalie on his team had better numbers.
5) Emery has played less than 40 games in each of the past 2 seasons.

Therefore....we should not rely on this guy to start 60 games for us and then play another 15-20 in the playoffs.

Sadly, it doesn't appear that anyone in the Flyers organization had this brain wave.

I'm all about the VP of Common Sense. Part of that guy's job description should be to read as much as possible about his team on sites like this. The wisdom of the crowds is pretty damn powerful. It shouldn't be the end all, be all, but the internet is going to point out just about every possible angle on an issue. Why wouldn't you want to consider all of that information before making any call?

Allow me to retort: Britney Spears is popular.

I vacillate on Simmons, but the VP of Common Sense and the Ewing Theory are 2 of the greatest sports-related ideas of the last 10 years.

Thus why you don't let the masses make the final call. I would wager, though, that a sampling of all people would find her to be unpopular. Prepubescent girls just tend to be loud about their tastes.
