What grades would you give our boys on their play till this point in the season? However you want to do it, whatever form, that's up to you.
Here are the grades I would give.
Adams- (C-) low cost 4th line role player, 0 goals, good checker
Cooke- (A) 100% effort every game, tenacious checker, great 3rd liner
Crosby- (A+) hardest worker, improved shot and goal scoring mentality
Dupuis- (C) speedy vet miscast in top 6 role, not his fault
Fedotenko- (D-) awful linemate for Malkin, been lousy all season
Godard- (C-) fills role as heavy weight, that's about it, injured
Guerin- (D) slow, old, lazy and anchor on first line, 9% SP
Kennedy-(C+) can't stay healthy, tazmainian devil energy
Kunitz - (C+) missed a lot of games, great physical presence
Malkin- (C+) given crap for linemates, but still, inconsistent season
Rupp- (B+) having career year, physical, chips in scoring
Staal (B) developing nicely, rounding out his game, great def.
Talbot (INC) played injured when he did play
Eaton- (B+) most consistent dmen imo, shot blocker
Goligoski- (C+) started season incredibly, got injured, never recovered form, extremely mobile dmen
Gonchar- (C) providing expected offensive production, below average defensively
Letang- (C+) potential to be a star, still putting it together, not there yet
McKee- (C) great shot blocker, play has slipped a bit lately
Orpik- (B) physical presence on blue line, great hitter
Skoula (D+) fills in when needed, slow, makes poor decisions, had a few good games
Fleury- (C) very inconsistent season
Johnson (B-) solid backup
(I took into consideration, role on team, expectations, potential. etc)
SORRY, DIDN'T MEAN TO PREFACE WITH PROSPECT INFO. IF A MOD COULD FIX TITLE, THAT WOULD BE GREAT, THANKS.
Adams- C- has had a few bad stretches but for the money he makes I don't think we can expect more
Cooke - A Another solid season from Cookie, very rarely has a bad game
Crosby - A+ Has had a great season, he's now the leagues best in the dot and challenging for best Goalscorer.
Dupuis - B- At one points was on pace for 20 goals, always works hard if only his hands were as fast as his legs.
Fedotenko - E been a black hole all season can count his good games on one hand
Godard - C- gets the job done
Guerin - C+ On pace for 20 goals and 50 points but his legs have gone.
Kennedy - B- Like Cooke rarely has a bad game but struggled with injury
Kunitz - B- slow start to the season and injury slowed him down just as he was hitting his stride
Malkin - B- struggled through out the season and given his linemates it's no suprise. Needs to work on his discipline.
Rupp - B+ Impressed by his hockey ability not so much by his fighting ability
Staal B+ had a few lean spells but his play is improving and hopefully he'll break 50 points this year.
Talbot INC played injured when he did play
Eaton - B+ very consistant and hard working underrated puck mover
Goligoski - B- really strong start but hasn't looked as good since injury but on pace for 40 points in rookie season is impressive.
Gonchar - C looks fragile out there, has underperformed defensively and has been average offensively
Letang - C+ Jekyll and Hyde, would have expected a bit more offense
McKee - C started the season strong but play has tailed off, still a bargain though
Orpik - B- Already equalled his best season offensively has had some defensive blunders but mostly good.
Skoula - D+ looked good first few games but his lack of speed and lack of physicality mean he's nothing more than an average 7th.
Fleury - C consistantly inconsistant
Johnson - Bvery solid would like to see him back next season
Adams- C- - surprisingly zero offense from this guy. Reliable fourth liner. Probably could be replaced by Dustin Jeffery with little effect on the team.
Cooke- A Gotta re-sign this guy. Actually standing up for himself against guys
in his class. Soundly defeated Ryan Callahan during a heated battle with the Rags. Punishing hitter, solid offensive skills and not as dirty some suggest.
Crosby- A+ Great player. Hard worker. Keeps putting up points despite mediocre linemates.
Dupuis- A - Exceeded all expectations. Important role player on this team.
Fedotenko- F. Doesn't belong on the roster. Has failed Malkin.
Godard- B - didn't fight as much as he should have when he was healthy.
Guerin- C+ - All he does is put up solid offensive numbers..
Kennedy- B- Somewhat disappointing when healthy
Kunitz - B+ - provides a spark and some scoring punch when healthy.
Malkin- B+ Struggling with lousy linemates. Seems to have have a petulant on ice demeanor when things aren't going well and often costs his team by spending unnecessary time in the sin bin. Pretty decent numbers nonetheless.
Rupp- B+ Great offensive numbers but inconsistent. Provides toughness and deterrence which can't be measured by FM totals. He's really the only legit deterrent the Pens have. With Godard out, Rupp's role is a difficult one on this team. Pens could use a MW to complement him.
Staal A - Quietly but firmly becoming a star and a leader.
Eaton- B+ The Iron Man! Reliable dman struggling a bit with Gonch
Goligoski- B- Exceeded expectations to start the year. Subpar return from injuries.
Gonchar- B- Immensely important to the offense. Defense has suffered due to injuries.
Letang- B - Lapses are becoming less frequent. Shows flashes of becoming a star.
McKee- D - Blues paid him to go away for a reason.... More to playing D than shot blocking. Look for him to be bumped outta the top six at the deadline.
Orpik- A Reliable dman, great skater and punishing hitter.
Skoula C - Has met expectations. He sucks and he was supposed to suck.
Fleury- B - Inconsistent like always. His down nights aren't as severe as they used to be. When he's on his game he's one of the best.
Johnson B+ - Very reliable NHL caliber goalie (unlike Sabourin).
Adams- B-. Does his job. PK's well, high hit totals.
Cooke- (A) High energy, solid night in, night out.
Crosby- (A-) Team leader, eclipsing goal totals, some PP blame on him.
Dupuis- (B) Does everything he's asked to do by team.
Fedotenko- (D-) Needs to fight Colby to get rolling again.
Godard- (B) Everyone forgets that this guy was playing good hockey early in the year
Guerin- (B-) He's old, slow and cheap. No reason to be lazy, however.
Kennedy-(B+) Team is completely different with him in the lineup.
Kunitz - (Inc.) Played injured when he was playing
Malkin- (C) Be smarter Geno. If struggling, simplify your game.
Rupp- (B+) Has done everything asked of him with limited minutes.
Staal (B+) Ability to transform team from above average to elite.
Talbot (INC) TBD
Eaton- (A-) Become staple on the backend
Goligoski- (C+) Jekyll and Hyde syndrome.
Gonchar- (C) providing expected offensive production, below average defensively (Well said, TD).
Letang- (C+) Like Staal, his play is critical for teams playoff success.
McKee- (C-) Needs to revert back to October form.
Orpik- (B+) Can set tone for team with physical play.
Skoula (D+) As Tocchet said, he sucks, but everyone knew that.
Fleury- (B-) Frustrating to watch, but a 29-16-4 record. He still wins.
Johnson (B+) Cheap, and gives team chance to win. All you can ask.
