Ugh. Playing the gold medal game at 12:15 is a horrible idea.

Well maybe they thought that 12:15 Pacific time would be best for people who want to watch in Europe.

12:15 pacific, 3:15 eastern, 9:15 Europe and 11:15 in Russia (Moscow).

Czech-Slovak match up looks like the only one in the first two days that should be competitive.

Stranger things have happened, though.

Every top team goes through, and the best runners up. All the other teams play an qual-game to qualify for quarterfinals.

Could someone please explain how the quarterfinals and qualification games work. With 3 pools of 12 teams I am very confused of what seeds will be playing in this games.

Is it winner of each pool and a wildcard based on +/- to see who gets byes to the quarterfinals? and thus the qaurterfinals seeds are also based on +/-. Please explain.

From one of the links in the OP:

Playoff information

Upon completion of the preliminary round, teams will be ranked 1D through 12D. The top four ranked teams (1D though 4D) will receive byes to the quarter-final round. The remaining eight teams will compete for the remaining four quarter-final positions.

So every team gets a shot at the medal round, no matter the performance in the round robin? A team could go 0-3 in the prelim but can still get the gold by winning three in a row in the medal round.

So how do fans in Europe feel about the start times of these games? Is it annoying that some of these games are in the middle of the night or would they likely be bumped for other olympic sports and the UEFA Football matches of the past week?

What would have been the ideal start times if you live in Sweden/Finland/Russia etc?

It's quite annoying to me but what can you do when the games are on another continent.
German hockey would probably have great ratings if they games started 8pm CET and not in the middle of the night or early morning.
I mean even Curling got more then 4.000.000 here at that timeslot.
On the other hand the German team is hardly doing a great job promoting German hockey right now so I don't even mind that hardly anyone watches them.

Fair enough. But given the noon start times the USA team had I would have thought having games start at 8pm CET would have been easy to pull off. So in a sense having the games on a different continent should be a correctable problem.

How does everyone else feel?

Is the game on Feb 23rd at 19:00 PT being played in UBC?

There's no way there are three games being played in a matter of 5 hours....
