If this was in-game entertainment provided by MSG, kudos to them for having a good sense of humor. This is much better than the usual cliche stuff on Gardenvision.

And it created a bit of a buzz, the NY Post wrote an article on the marriage proposal.

What positive benefit does that buzz have though? I can't think of how it could positively impact anything.... Talking about the event would have been good until the inevitable truth came out that it was a hoax.... IMHO the public finding out that it was a hoax negates any positive impact it could have had from a marketing/PR perspective....

Perhaps "any PR is good PR" in the eyes of the Rangers' marketing department.

I just find it freakin' hilarious that they would even consider pulling off a prank like that. Maybe they realize that the on-ice product isn't so entertaining, so they need to resort to an alternative to excite the crowd...

The NY Post & Daily News both have articles about it. It was on the front page of the Post's online edition.

Until I hear the actual parties envloved say it was fake i'll choose to believe other wise.

I don't think it was, I was seated above them. In the seat directly above me was a little gril who made a homemade poster & was trying all game to get on camera.hen the camera guy came by he had 3 NYR PR people with him, we were trying to get him to pan to the girl with the poster, the entire time he was focused on the couple.

If it was faked than he should name his sources.

I agree with you guys... I think this was a pretty stupid idea in general and have no clue what it was supposed to accomplish....

Not only was it a hoax, but it was a Rangers-sanctioned hoax.

The “Blueshirt Bride” marriage proposal on Valentine’s Day from “Nick” to Melissa” that ended with “Melissa” storming off and gaining national attention through YouTube, The Huffington Post and Inside Edition, was not only fake but a source confirmed Monday the couple was actually actors hired through an agency and designed to be part of the in-game entertainment.
Why would the Rangers do this? Wow, I guess the play on the ice isnt entertaining enough - they have to pull these off-ice stunts to keep people in the stands! What is this? Im actually kind of shocked.

This is totally unlike the Rangers - im very surprised. Maybe they saw that other hoax with the guy trying to find his section for 3 hours and thought it would be a funny thing to do this.

Guess they thought it wouldnt be such a big deal, but in this day an age everything gets onto the internet.

If this is any indication of whats ahead we should see some trades to try and get this team into the playoffs to push that revenue. This hoax seems a little desperate no?

Thought it was very funny when I heard the couple came up with the hoax--now that I've heard (through Andrew Gross) that the Garden hired them, I think it's really tacky. The Garden has to remember (or learn) that most of us are there to see hockey, not be distracted by music and text messages and whatever other crap they throw out there.

Agreed, im kinda perturbed about this.

It really shouldnt be such a big deal, but now thats its gained national coverage it just makes the Rangers organization look like dummies to be honest. Totally out of character imo.

Throw in the fact that the team sucks and it just doesnt look good. I dont blame other fans for knocking the team after hearing this was a set-up. Silly.

My sentiments exactly.... It would be one thing if the couple thought it up and they wanted to play a little joke on the fans but why MSG does something like this is beyond me.... It was a harmless random incident, that's fine... But if they actually thought it would draw positive PR for the arena and then the "inside MSG sources" go blabbing about how it was a hoax, well then it now becomes negative publicity as far as I'm concerned.... Fans don't really appreciate having the wool pulled over their eyes, they get enough of that already.

I think it's a combination of two things--first, the on ice product has been pretty lousy for years now (with the exception of the first two years after the lockout) and that makes it hard for the fans to get into the game and create the kind of buzz in the stands that used happen on a regular basis. Second, because ownership has raised prices so much, there are less long time/hard core fans going to games on a regular basis. As a result, the people running the Garden feel the need to keep fans "involved" during the game, so they are constantly trying to raise the noise level and the emotion in the stands, in order create the "buzz" that used to come naturally.

Who needs to see a hockey game, when there is so much else going on? It's just another way to avoid the real issues facing this organization's on-ice product.

Guys...overrating much?

It was entertainment, it created a buzz in the crowd for 5 minutes aftr the place was as quiet as a funeral for most of the afternoon (like most afternoon games are)....job well done by MSG.

You'd think by some of the comments here they killed someone in the stands.

Name the Sources, as in the People, not publications all re-quoting the same thing Gross tweeted.
