Eklund: Johnson for Hartnell, plus Vokoun

Normally i would love Johnson but our defense is playing great now so who does he replace? try and move Carle while his stock is high?

suposively we are 100% going to get a goalie no way to Turco but we want Vokoun he says and Hartnell would be possible if he waives his clause.

if we were to do a deal with LA we would have to do another deal now or this summer to move Carle. i think Vokoun is just too expensive just like Thomas. if our defense plays to its potential or what its capable. we can get by for this year and pick up someone this summer or trade at the draft possibly.

what does everyone think? would we be interested in Johnson?

On the LA Kings and Kariya...

The Kings LOVE Hartnell as well and it is possible that Jack Johnson could be part of a deal.

On the Flyers...

They will get a goalie. Almost 100% they will. Vokoun is the guy they love the most, but he has already said he will be picky with his no-trade, and his salary of course is crazy. The Panthers may take a big contract back, but those players would have to waive to go and are pretty much limited to Briere (who I don't see waiving) and Hartnell (who might). The Flyers other options are Biron, Ellis, and Corey Schneider. Turco is not an option.

I'd be VERY interested in Johnson. His price tag is pretty low for this season and next, sub $1.5 mil I believe. Vokoun, no way. If we are trading for a goalie with a huge salary I'd rather have Turco, but in reality neither. As far as who to bench in favor of Johnson, I would probably say Bartulis. I love the kid but Johnson is definitely better than him. Maybe even Krajicek. But Johnson is signed for another year so we could potentially let one of the Coburn/Parent/Syvret/Karjicek walk without really feeling the impact. But I doubt the Flyers go after a defenseman at this point. Like you said, the D is clicking on all cylinders. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Vokoun has not only been playing better than Turco for the last 2 years, but he's at least signed for next year.

JMFJ is not leaving LA, at least not until the summer.

Yes. We don't have a 2nd round pick either of the next 2 drafts.

Can't say I would. It deprives us of every asset possible to use in future trades for the next 2-3 years

When was the last time a goalie was traded for 4 picks, a top-6 forward, and 2 decent prospects?

My point is it is a huge overpayment. And realistically would be only Hartnell and a prospect. Any more than that and there has to be more coming to philadelphia.

The Flyers would leave a huge hole somewhere else in the lineup in order to get Vokoun. Plus, who would waive their no NTC/NMC to go to a team who's owner just sent a letter to season ticket holders saying they were going to rebuild? Maybe, Mrs. Harntell likes FLA beaches?

honestly, id love to improve goaltending for the Flyers future, but at the same time, is it possible for another goalie to come in and play better than Leighton or Emery at this point? I mean sure its possible, but in the last 8 games the flyers have let up 2 or less goals and 12 out of the last 13 games.

I'd love to move Brieres contract but his play lately has made me eat my words.

Somebody has hit on the vital key of trading with Florida!

Got to get Colin Campbell's son.

One issue with Johnson is that he's still kind of raw in terms of hockey sense. Kid's got a ton of talent, but he still seems very raw to me.

If they traded Hartnell in a Johnson deal, it would free up Carle to be sent to Florida in a Vokoun deal, but it seems like a ton of moving parts.

Hartnell to Florida doesn't make a ton of sense, just because I don't see anyone waiving a NTC to go to a team whose owners just publicly promised to drop a nuke on the roster.

Colin Campbell would veto that trade.

Zero interest in JMFJ however, a Hartnell + Carle + Boucher + Lehtivuori + 3rd or something similar to Florida for Vokoun + Dvorak + Seidenberg would interest me.

He would hurt his sons feelings everytime he needs to discipline his awesome hooligan teamates

Johnson would be a nice piece but the defence is good atm. I'm not sure i would support that move at the deadline, perhaps in the off season. It depends on what Holmgren might send back.

The only thing the Flyers need is more consistent offense, so I would give up a pick and/or a prospect for some veteran offense. That's it.

Hartnell-Carter-Briere are smoking hot right now. You factor out the horrible stretch and the record this year is really good and I like the way they're playing team D. I'd add a vet Dman too for insurance, but I like the core of the team right now and so long as they finish above the 8 seed and avoid the Caps in the first round, I say they win at least one round. I like the team.

The gossip columnist Eklund also said Jan Hejda from Columbus might be up for grabs. Now that would make me very happy.

Wait... there are people in existence that think Vokoun isn't better than Turco?

Turco's been very inconsistent since the lockout, but he's been good come playoff time and Vokoun doesn't have much playoff experience.

Having said that, I'd stay with Leighton.

Why wouldn't you want Turco over Vokoun? Besides the fact that he has more wins, shutouts, and a much lower GAA, and pretty much the same save percentage, Turco has the intangibles of the many playoff games that Vokoun doesn't have (and the tangibles like puck handling and being a better goalie).

Even though Harts is having a down year this year and his ongoing shenanigans are severely depressing, we do lose some size there. If we get a forward in return that'd be great.

Although trading him for a d-man could definitely give JVR a lot more TOI and pp time.
