You're going to have to face the facts that what you believe you see on the ice is merely a mirage. The coaches obviously see something way better in Horcoff's game than you immortal fans do.

Either Horcoff sucks or Quinn/Renney suck as coaches. We all know they can do no wrong, so it must be that Horcoff is a talented two-way player.

Figure it out, people.
We've already established that Horcoff sucks. Out of forwards in the top 80 icetime, Horcoff has the worst plus/minus and ppg ratio (and there's nobody even close). So, now you have me questioning whether Quinn does suck or whether he's been mandated to play Horcoff (showcasing, blackmail pictures, etc).

Probably Cogs.

I think the only person who CAN'T be whipped is Stortini

I'm serious

If we move out most of our veterans this season, then I fear you are right. Cogliano would likely be the whipping boy, if he's even still around next year. Cogliano, Pouliot, O'Sullivan, and possibly Penner (depending on which Penner we see next season.)

Smyth is not the answer. He didn't lead Edmonton anywhere, including the year he was traded. He makes far too much money for what he brings to the table. He is paid like a PPG player, he is not. Horcoff doesn't deserve the money he makes either. We would probably be in the same boat if Smyth was still here making Horcoff money and Horcoff was elsewhere.

That being said, if we could unload Horcoff, I'm all for it.

Forget about goals, that's the biggest picture re: Smyth as an Oiler.

Who cares? None of those seasons took the Oilers anywhere. Personally, they got Smyth the money he's making now, not that he deserves that big a paycheque.

I don't recall Smyth's goal with 34 seconds left helping us get the 8th seed.

That year, the Oilers scored 18 goals in 4 games against the Ducks. Sigh.

Smyth pretty much stood for everything that was an oiler, hard working, gritty goals.

The oilers especially before the lockout were known as gritty underdogs, torres, stoll peca(after lockout), reasoner. Hence why we were a decent team.

Now we let go of all those players and we just plain suck. Smyth was a game changer. The face of the franchise. when we traded him he was on par for 40 goals.

lets be reality here, the last oiler to score 30 goals before smyth? and people still think he wasnt worth it?

Who's our franchise players now? Hemsky? oh man you gotta think how much hes gonna ask for because of horcoff's contract.

What I'm saying is it's shortsighted to think that the money would have been better spent on Smyth. The other thing is Hemsky is not paid like an elite player. His paycheque is in line with what he provides us.

So what. He was on pace for 40 goals that year. The Oilers were still going nowhere fast.

He is not worth his paycheque not by a long shot. He's paid like he is an elite player but he isn't an elite player.
