Sorta OT: The Simpsons: Russia and USA for the Gold!

Just watching the Simpsons with my daughter, and the announcers at the Vancouver Olympics mentioned that the Gold medal game is between the Russians and team USA How dare they! What do you guys think the reaction here would be like if the Simpsons writers are correct?

BTW Mods, if this thread should be moved somewhere else, that's all good

First, that would be bogus; and 2, the writers could win a boatload of money if they bet on that. (If they are correct, which I'm hoping they aren't.)

I watched that episode and not once did I hear USA and Russia for Gold. I heard USA and Sweden for Gold in the Curling...

The Simpsons are PG. I would understand if you said Family Guy or American Dad.

Has anyone notice that the Simpsons have rebounded after about a decade of poor episodes. Surprising only a few poor episodes the last couple of years. Family Guy has been much worse then the Simpsons. Today being a prime example.

I couldn't find a utube of it, so I'm hoping I am right. If not, I apologise for misquoting the Simpsons . But anyway, what IF it's USA and Russia in the gold? What would your reaction be? Just wondering

Ever since they went to HD, the quality of writing has been stellar IMO. Certainly more sophisticated than the cartoons it shares Sunday with, but most often just as funny.

I heard it too, they said something like

"let's interrupt the gold medal game between the USA and Russia for this ceremony of surrender by the American mixed curling team"

I watched and yes they did mention USA and Russia for Gold in the hockey game.

Shortly after Homer says "this time the miracle will be on ice"

Great line, and undoubtedly the reason for the USA/Russia hockey final.

Simpsons do great Canada send ups. In the episode where they go to Toronto, Millhouse and Bart join the national basketball team ("yup, it's that easy...").

My all time favourite though was when Patty and Selma kidnapped MacGyver and he wouldn't leave, so they decide to bore him to death to get him to go. For that purpose, they end up showing slides of their visit to "a carriage museum in Alberta Canada" which is undoubtedly the Remington Museum. Had to call my brother in law who did some of the design work for that as an architect. He thought it was hillarious...

Yeah I heard it too. I was mostly surprised that anyone in America cares enough about hockey to try to cheese us off.

That episode was quite funny. And frankly Mixed curling would be more competitive then Women's Hockey right now.

Canada wins the bronze in mixed curling!!! Another feather in the cap of the "own the podium" program. A few more millions invested and we can finally overtake that great curling power, the US of A!!! The Labonte Curse would finally be dead once and for all.

Apparently the Simpsons have a few Canuck writers, from what I've read.

BTW: Thank you to the posters who quoted what I thought I heard...I was getting a little worried for a moment

I didn't watch it but it sounds like something that Tim Long of Calgary would write. He's one of I think, three Canadian writers on the Simpsons staff, and he sucks.
