We all know how well the Bruins have been handling contracts and trading recently.

I pray for a Bruins-Devils series every year.

PS. Chiarelli blows.

I would be happy with that too, I'd be able to go to most of the games because I live about halfway between the two teams.

Now scratch the Bruins off the list of potential places for Kovalchuk to sign during the off season.

Thanks, Peter!!

Very wrong. Chiarelli just got an extension & the Jacobs family, although spending to the cap, very much protect their bottom line. They are frustrated and annoyed, but Peter is safe. And he's been an above average GM, at worst, for the Bruins.

With that said, I do think his comments were unprofessional and he's just really frustrated that there's nothing he can do on the market to salvage the season. Too many issues that can't be cured until draft/free agency etc.

Fair enough, I assumed (incorrectly it seems) that my friends who are Bruins fans know what they are talking about.

I'm not saying it's impossible for him to be fired, but highly unlikely. This team was an absolute mess before he came in. They're not a contender, but the core and the assets are there and the Bruins are "somewhat" relevant in the city again. That, coupled with not wanting to pay a new GM & coach while paying the contracts of the guys you fired, tells me he is safe.

They'll make the 1st round and get 2-3 games of home playoff revenue, get big draft picks, try to dump some K's, and regroup, not rebuild.

But you're right, if Chia wanted anything to do with Kovy as a UFA, he just threw that out the window.

I'm not familiar with the Bruins' cap situation, but would they even have the cap space to make a substantial offer for Kovalchuk? I was under the impression that the Bruins are up against the cap again.

I'm thinking by the statements he made, he knows they won't have the room for him. They could be effed with the cap and have to hope the Leafs continue to suck and that a guy like Hall or Seguin could step right in (even that would be tough, because it's looking like no bonus cushion next season, which is the only reason why the Bruins have been able to ice Rask this season)

If they get lucky, they will be able to move one or more of Thomas, Ryder, or Wideman and free up some space for a badly needed winger for Savard

Dude, did you even watch that playoff run? #12 was our most important forward in the entire playoffs. Jeff ****ing Friesen. I'll NEVER forget what he did for this team that season. We don't win the cup without him.

It's a very real 1st-round possibility. In which case, the press will have a field day with it.

Speaking of Rask, that guy is legit. I had the pleasure of seeing him live in a goaltending duel against Brodeur in Boston on November 27. Definitely a keeper, I don't blame the Bruins for making Thomas available, even if he is a year removed from a Vezina award.

The Leafs will have built Boston the way that Milbury built the Senators.

Rask was from them. The 1st-3rd overall pick will be because of them this year, and next.

Thanks Leafs!

And all the Leafs got from the Bruins was Raycroft () and Kessel.

I agree. The Bruins board is full of people throwing out names like Blaine Lacher, Andrew Raycroft & Hannu Toivonen. I think the "rushing young goalies" thing is overstated. It's not like playing in Boston is like being the goalie in Montreal, where Price has wilted. I think Rask is legit and is a 3rd year pro now. Those other guys weren't good enough and got lucky in their rookie seasons.

If anyone will take Thomas' K and he agrees to waive his NTC, he's gone.
