I agree. The Bruins board is full of people throwing out names like Blaine Lacher, Andrew Raycroft & Hannu Toivonen. I think the "rushing young goalies" thing is overstated. It's not like playing in Boston is like being the goalie in Montreal, where Price has wilted. I think Rask is legit and is a 3rd year pro now. Those other guys weren't good enough and got lucky in their rookie seasons.
If anyone will take Thomas' K and he agrees to waive his NTC, he's gone.
Don't get me wrong, I like Thomas. I love a goalie who plays with a little fire in his belly. (This despite the fact that my favourite goalie is Brodeur, and he is the definition of calmness under fire.) I must be the only Devils fan who liked Ron Hextall. Some of the crazy stuff Thomas has done is awesome, like roughing Kostitsyn or tackling Jason Blake.
But Thomas is getting older, his contract is a burden, and Rask is ready. The Bruins have their goalie of the future, they should waste no time in giving him the job.
Pathetic, Chia. Pathetic. What are you, Mr. Unprofessional? Acquiring Kovalchuk has nothing to do with our continuing slump. I pray we meet you in the first round (assuming you make the playoffs at all), because once we get out of the cobwebs we're going to be lethal, and you're already working at max capacity.
What a whiner and what a hypocrite. He wanted this guy badly, but the Thrashers chose to take our offer and that's it. Now he's saying this??
Just curious. Where is the proof the Bruins made any offer, beyond what probably any other team who has the resources made, to show he wanted him "badly"? I think a lot of panicking Bruins fans wanted him badly, not PC.

it was reported by many news outlets that Boston was one of the last teams in on Kovalchuk

6 straight starts with a completely healthy Thomas on the bench. 4-0-2 record in that span. Thomas, assuming he doesn't get in any games in the Olympics, will have gone a full month with no action.
The job is Rask's to lose, and I think Chiarelli & co. are hoping that Thomas' competitive spirit leads him to waive his NTC & a good team with goaltending needs wants to make a deal. Even then, the Bruins will have to take a bad K back. And I honestly don't have a problem with that, as long as who they get in return is a winger or defenseman who is capable of performing better in a different environment. You deal from positions of strength to fix a weakness. Bruins have a Vezina winning goalie playing backup while Savard plays with garbage.

I'm thinking the Chiarelli's offer was pretty low-ball since it didn't beat the Devils' one (and that's not an insult, I think Lou made a great deal, one of the better rental acquisitions ever.)
But Chia could have beaten it pretty easily, I just think he knows his team is more than 1 piece away from winning anything, so he tried to pry him away with a low offer.

I know, he's on my fantasy team.
I definitely wouldn't mind if he got traded to a contender looking for a goalie. The Hawks, perhaps?

I don't believe Chiarelli was saying Kovalchuk was responsible for our slump....I believe he was saying that he is not the impact player you might think.
He talks about turning it around [the slump] specifically.
And let's face it, there have big goal scorers throughout the history of the NHL that have not been major impact players. Someone that is no more than just a big shooter, even if he is the best in the world at it, is one dimensional.
I think what Chiarelli was trying to say to his fans was it was a blessing in disguise -- that only one component to a multi-faceted game might not have been the best solution as can be seen playing out in New Jersey.
I don't think they were actually in on this. The only person that brought them up, other than posters on this site, was ESPN, pretty much right before the i's had been dotted, and the t's crossed, to send him to the Devils.
