Team MVP(s) to This Point of the Season: You Rank 'Em

If you were asked to do a top five list, how would you rank the Most Valuable Players?

Saturday's radio pre-game said most of the attention would go to Pronger or Richards but that Leighton should be considered.

Have a go:

1. Pronger
2. Carter
3. Timonen
4. Richards
5. Laperriere (edges out Leighton 6th)

1) Pronger.

This isn't close, I'm sorry.

2) Richards - plays, by a wide margin, the hardest shifts of our forwards.
3) Leighton - he's not that good, but the season is F'd without him getting hot.
4) Timonen
5) Carter

1) Pronger by far, if we had done better this year in a couple other areas, he'd have a decent case for Hart.

2) Carter, most productive forward, our best 2-way forward, has become a decent PKer.

3) Richards, heart and soul guy, having an unbelievable defensive season even if his production is down.

4) Kimmo, loses some points for his rough start, but has been money for the past few months.

5) Leighton, I still think a lot of it is a product of our D, but he has done alright.

1. Pronger (no explanation necessary)
2. Richards (at times criticized, but the Captain plays an all-around great game)
3. Timonen (still a rock in the back, great teacher for young D-men like Bartulis, Syvret, Parent, etc.)
4. Leighton (honestly, without his consistency we likely wouldn't even be looking at a playoff spot)
5. Betts or Laperriere (can't pick one above the other - have had a great impact on the team overall, ESPECIALLY with Dan Carcillo. I think he's learned a lot, esp. from Lappy regarding when to pick battles)

EDIT: It's really difficult not to put Jeff Carter in there somewhere. His two-way game has developed immensely and he's really picked it up recently.

1. Laviolette - This team is lost without him. He has taken the boys from way out of the playoffs to battling for home ice.

2. Pronger - Defensive anchor, most consistent of all players.

3. Leighton - Although he lets out a tonne of rebounds, his record as a Flyer is 12-3-1-1. He just happened to be the goalie that dug this team out of the gutter.

The rest are a toss up.

1. Pronger- Hands down. Single handedly improved our D and made a solid defenseman out of a previously mediocre defensemen (Carle)

2. Carter- Especially since he hot his amazing scoring touch back, plus I have noticed a big improvement in the way he plays in his own zone.

3. Leighton- Face it, this team wouldn't be where they are right now without his solid play game after game since he got to Philly. If we make it to the playoffs without having to fight for a spot, Leighton's the first guy I tip my hat to for getting us there.

4. Richards- Captain Cannon. I think a lot of us might have been questioning his leadership abilities when he was the captain of a sinking ship... But now that it's afloat again, he's been solid on the ice and everyone seems to be responding well to his 'C' again.

5. Betts- IMO, best role-depth guy in the league. Great on the draws. Amazing on the PK. And has scored some pretty key goals which he wouldn't need to do at all to be effective in playing his role.

HM- Carcillo- By far the most improved player on the team. Has been very disciplined. But still just sooooo much energy. Amazing skating ability. Has great hands that we haven't seen as much from him before this season. And we all know he doesn't take **** from anyone and is willing to drop the gloves. He's the kind of guy you love when he's on your team, but absolutely hate when he's not...... So basically, a Flyer through and through. I'd love to have him on the Flyers for years to come if the price is right.

Pronger
Timonen
Betts
Lappy
Everyone else has been too inconsistent to be rated MVP.

Didn't include Lavi as this should be players only, but clearly he's been huge for us.

Pronger
Betts - This guy solidifies the lineup so well it's ridiculous.
Timonen
Leighton
Bartulis - had he not shown up like he did, that 3rd pairing quite possibly could have sunk the season

For me, it's gotta be:
Pronger

Timonen
Betts
Richards
Lappy

Timonen struggled to learn his new role earlier in the year, but has been - along with Pronger - THE reason for our resurgence of late. Honestly, I am very thankful for Leighton and what he has accomplished, but I don't think he's been the MVP of many, if any, games. Very, very solid? Yes. But the defense has just been too good in front of him to say he's even in contention for MVP, IMO.

chris pronger has come as advertised and then some. dude's been stellar all year and has provided much needed stability to the back line. whenever i see him on the ice there's a calming feeling even when we're down on a 5 on 3 im confident with both he and kimmo out there that they'll kill it off.
