Gaborik likely to miss Slovakia's first two games...

VANCOUVER As if Slovakia didn't have enough on its Olympic plate what with assignment to the toughest Group and a bracing opening game against arch-rival Czech Republic on Wednesday, it now appears as if goal-scoring machine Marian Gaborik won't suit up until the Saturday's round-robin finale against Latvia.

Good. Don't want him playing if it could make his issues worse.

Hossa suffered a concussion is planning/hoping to play a few days later. That's insane.

Quote:
Just spoke with Slovakian coach. Gaborik won't practice Tuesday either. Gametime decision on Wednesday.

Marian Hossa is dealing with suspected concussion. He'll be tested again on Tuesday but said he felt good after practice today.

Slovakia has to back to back games. Wednesday and Thursday.

Players are not allowed to report to the teams until February 24 to resume skating in preparation for the NHL season.

Good to see Dellapina back to business. Was digging a bit the interwebz the other day, fell on some of his work back in the 90's.

I'd rather not see him play at all. What's Hossa thinking? He needs to rest himself.

gaborik might only play one game against a crap team in latvia. that's the ideal situation for us. then he gets to rest up and he desperately needs it. yes he got hot the last few games but this guy has got to be burnt out from all the pressure this rangers team has put on him to score. i think ideally he plays in that one game on saturday and then rests up for the playoff push.

I think the real question is that if the Slovakian coach feels that he needs more time before he plays why did the Rangers have him on the ice for the Pittsburgh game?, albeit it came clear after a few shifts that he was nowhere near ready.

"According to Slovakian team doctor Dalimir Jancovic, Gaborik still has significant weakness in his right leg and difficulty fully flexing his knee one week after a collision in practice with New York Rangers teammate Henrik Lundqvist".

No disrespect to any Slovakians, but I hope they lose their 1st 2 games 100-0 and Gabs realizes its a hopeless situation and rests

As said before, no disrespect to Slovakians but I'm kind of happy that he's getting rest.

I am still very nervous about him playing these two weeks, and damn what a 1-2 punch having Hossa injured as well. Gab and Hos were like the spine of the Slovak offense.

i kinda wanted to see him play for his country but i guess its sort of a good thing since he will get more rest and the rangers making the playoffs are more important to me than slovakia

That sounds almost like it's a joint issue and not just a surface laceration...

A poster on the Olympic forum, posted in the Slovakian GDT that Gaborik will play.

He posted no source, but take it for what its worth.

Apparently it happened on a poke check attempt. Speaking from experience, I know there are times when you attempt a poke check your lower legs, along with your feet can swing upwards as you somewhat lunge forward. In a motion where the heel of your skate is swinging in the direction of your head. (while you are on your stomach)

Gabby apparently tried to avoid him by leapin over, and if he was trying to bring his leg forward in the air for a landing on the other side of lundqvist while Henrik's heel is coming in the opposite direction - that can have horrible results.

The heel/rear part of the blade would have caught Gaborik on the area above the shinpad and below the pant leg. Which would be further exposed from Gaborik stretching out.

But, this is me speculating, and I'm not surprised he got cut like he did. I just hope he doesn't get infected.

I would think if you positioned yourself at the corner of a large desk, raised yourself using the adjacent sides of the edge of the desk and swung your leg so your lower front thigh area would strike the very corner od the desktop... this would be like what happened. Except with a skate blade.

Enough blabberin for me, I just hope he's ready to go when they get back.

Gabby looked pretty good...didnt show that burst of acceleration he usually has, but the same shot and same shiftiness was there. he was their 2nd best player to Hossa who was absolutely beastly.

but jagr was the best player on the ice for both teams.

Cervenka looked good on the small rink, could be a good signing to play with Gaborik.
