USA v. Sui, CAN v. NOR, RUS v. Lat.

Yup, I'm feeling bold after breaking the curse of the moderator's streak with the Pittsburgh game.

USA, with Ryan Suter and Co. versus the Swiss carrying Roman Josi 2:00 CST

Canada, with basically the NHl all-star team and Shea Weber go after Norway. 6:30 CST

And Russia, with that traitor Alexander Radulov vs. Latvia. 10:55 CST. That's right Latvia.....

(Who's on Latvia, again?)

And to cover for the fact my blood sugar crashed on me and I'm a total sexist when it comes to hockey. Here are the results of competition for the women's ice hockey competition:

Group B

USA 12-1 China. My God, you may own our debt but you don't own our hockey!

Finland 5-1 Russia. That's for invading us in WWII!

Group A

Sweden 3-0 Switzerland Expected but hey I learned that the starting goaltender for the Swiss is dating a Boston Bruin. (Name I have forgotten)

Canada 18-0 Slovakia JEBUS! Just because the HFer's call him Cindy Crosby does not mean you can play him on the woman's side! At least it wasn't the 82-0 thrashing against Belarus

Swiss 1-10 Canada Uh.....I think the Canadian women will make the Quarters....Just an uneducated guess.

Sweden 6-2 Slovakia And I think they are going to meet Sweden there....

Games today:

USA v. Russia 1:30 CST. Like the Cold War.....only with estrogen.

Finland v. China 6:00 CST Knowing my history, Finland is NOT a big fan of Communists.... This could get ugly quick.

I worked all last night so I could have today off to watch the games today. So Excited!!!! I can't wait for 2 to get here.

BFC, I believe Josi isn't playing for Swiss as I believe he is injured. The Swiss never have big names but are always a solid team. I'm predicting a close game. 3-1 USA

Yes, unfortunately due to his broken finger not healing in time for the Games, Josi was replaced officially on the Swiss roster at the start of the week...

I'm recording the game since I'm at work at the moment. The plan is to not pull up the boxscore or the feeds that I know exist. *sigh* Wish my jersey had come in the mail in time for the first game. Oh well, should be here by Sunday's match. Go USA!!!

Great shift for the first US goal! Backes goes in hard on the forecheck and lays a big hit on the Swiss defenseman to rush the outlet pass, Ryan creates the turnover pinching on the wall, then makes a fantastic pure effort play to control the puck while down on his knees pinned to the ice by the Swiss forward only to pull the puck all the way back with his stick and then move it up the wall to Orpik. Orpik with the shot, gets blocked out in front, Backes ties up the Swiss defenseman that blocked the shot allowing Ryan to swoop in and rifle a wrist shot over Hiller's right shoulder...

1-0 US after 1

If Trotz had that talent he could run a power play like that.

Sutes with an assist on the PP, a shot from the point that was poked home by Malone.

as i understand the format, the top 4 teams after round robin play will advance to the medal round and the remaining 8 teams will play a one game, seeded, play in round to fill the other 4 spots.

what is the tiebreaker for seeding? seems like there will likely be three 3-0 teams and three 2-1 teams with one of the 2-1's getting to advance with out playing another game

Haha. No....

We would just put all the talent on the PK or something like that. I still remember Forsberg on the third line with rookie Radulov and Vernon Fiddler. Yay Trotz!

Damn I'm good.

Anyways to the game. Good and Bad.

Forwards:

Bad: Can't say anyone was bad. The first line, Parise-Stansty-Kane was a bit disappointing especially Kane, however I think they'll be fine. Dustin brown didn't impress me and Lagenbrunner didn't really stick out.

Good: B. Ryan, Backes(What a beast of a player), Kesler, Callahan all stood out to me.

Defense

Good: Suter, and both Johnsons were the best D-men on the ice. Most others were solid as well.

Bad: Whitney better have his ass glued to the bench when we play top level teams.
Raflaski- When we play top tier teams I can see him being a problem defensively. Hope Suter is ready to cover his ass!

Overall this team is playing fast and physical. They need to clean up some things for sure but they will dangerous against anyone.

The following criteria will be used in the order presented to determine this ranking following completion of the Preliminary Round (1D - 12D):

* Higher position in the group
* Higher number of points
* Better goal difference
* Higher number of goals scored for
* Better 2009 IIHF World Ranking

No problem! Just yesterday I was googling trying to figure out just exactly how the scoring et al works and came across lots of people trying to explain it in "layman's terms" yet really just confusing me more. Finally, deep within the google search, I came across that and wondered why people didn't just refer me to the link. It's explained so well!

Oh, and I am of Scottish heritage and really love the traditions. I live in Nashville but wanted something different next to my name as opposed to the American flag, so that's why I chose it.
