Former Montreal Canadiens coach Guy Carbonneau has been asked to coach Canada's Under-18 team this year.

While Carbonneau hasn't accepted the job yet, a decision will be made next week.

It's sad knowing how much better off the Habs would be with him behind the bench instead of the genius we currently got behind the bench

Good for him. Hopefully he can get a job coaching in the NHL a la Quinn last year. Hope it's with Toronto

We're seeing Carbonneau's awesome communications skills again, he couldn't even say yes or no when asked to coach the team.

The Habs played pretty much the exact way under Carbonneau.

Carbo - Hmmm I'm going to mold you into a team of Kostopouli. Any of you related to him ?

Random kid - I meet him once
Carbo - Can anyone do better ?
Carbo - No ?
Carbo - Alright, you're the captain.

Honestly, I think Carbo can be a good coach in the future. Unfortunately he had to learn the ropes on our team. I hope he accepts, this is an excellent opportunity to prove himself again. He should stay away from CBC as far as possible.

bah carbo and Martin are about the same....power play and goaltending save our ass and our 5 on 5 play is terrible and coach has no clue how to put a lineeup together....

btw, i dont know what hockey canada is thinking to be honest, they did this couples ago with trent yamney and it was a mess to put a coach who has no clue about the players he has. hope it work for Carbo but im not too sure about this. other than his chicoutimi team im not too sure carbo has any clue about the u-18 prospects across canada

edit: it did work with pat quinn....but anyway not a fan of putting "big" name coach who dont follow the chl

I think Pat Quinn also coached the under 17s tourny the year before. So he knew what players he had somewhat. I hope Carbo does accept, I'd like to see him back behind the bench. Atleast hes entertaining.

Tankers? Not at all, but a realist.

Knowing that this team is going no where, and no where for a long time with the current management and coaching we got.

A speedy, skilled team that plays the 1-2-2 for 55 mins a game, then when they realize they need 2 or 3 goals, they open up for 5 minutes.

How anyone can say Martin coached this team better than Carbo is beyond me. Carbo's record with this team, full of players you all seem to make fun of now, is about 40 games over .500 with an Eastern Conference title although that team got bounced in the 2nd round.

With Martin, we will most likely end the season at around .500 and out of the playoffs. It's pretty black and white to me, but hey, what do I know -- Martin is coaching this team to perfection.

I always saw his good words towards kostopoulos as a way to get more out of the player and praise his work ethic, which was more than great. A nice reward for a guy who was willing to take a beating for any other guy wearing the same jersey. he stepped up in playoffs ...

Carbo never said kosto had talent, but he saw something he liked in him, and although some will obviously disagree, I think he got the best out of kostopoulos, and out of the players he had generally speaking ...

he made mistakes, as pointed out in a very funny way by some posters here, but he still can become a phenomenal coach in the nhl imho...

FWIW, Kostopolous seems poised to set career highs in goals and points this year playing on a basement dwelling team and in his 30s. Sure, those are not very impressive "highs", but maybe he is slightly better than some give him credit for.
