Why is Norway not a hockey power?

Denmark is not part of the Scandinavian peninsula, it's part of continental Europe.

You think Finland would win every medal considering their proficiency at the sport against Stalin.

Anyway there seems to be dribs and drabs of more players coming from outside the Big 7. One thing I think the NHL could do is market players in their home country a bit more, particularly Kopitar in Slovenia and Vanek in Austria.

It certainly fits into the "Hockey is for everyone" initiative.

Norway's problem is a small population and lack of large government subsidized hockey programs like Sweden or Finland. Another issue could be that a huge chunk of Norway's population ended up here in Minnesota, north Iowa, Wisconsin and North/South Dakota. I should know, my great grandparents left the Rogaland, Stavanger Norway area and settled here in the US.

Why is Canada so awful at soccer? We're virtually the only developed country with a population over 10 million that sucks, badly. Must be all the expats playing for England

By the way, Norway totally got -robbed- of even a chance to compete in the WC thanks to idiotic UEFA grouping by FIFA. Instead cheaters such as France made the splash. Pure favoritism.

As for the argument that South Korean emergence in hockey would influence the other Asian nations...China is still light years behind South Korea and Japan at football/soccer.

I would love to see competitive hockey nations expand to 16 and have world cups revolve around the top 16 nations, hence my support of further development of international hockey. It's a great game that doesn't need to be restricted to North America and a few northern European countries.
