Interesting Question

With all this speculation and rumours I was wondering: Trades are, at times, made with terms regarding the success of the team is it also possible to do that with player results as well? I.E. The Oilers trade Pisani for a 4th rounder to Pitts. That pick becomes a 3rd if he scores 5-10 goals between now and the end of the playoffs. A 2nd if he scores 11-20 and a first for 21+. Has anything like this been done before or is it even allowed? It would be an interesting concept for both teams to consider.

To the furthest extent that I've seen is only if the player re signs with the team or if the team wins (X) playoff rounds does the pick change into something more.

Oilers ones of note were:

Roloson to EDM for 1st round pick (and 3rd round pick if he resigns)

Pronger to ANA for Lupul, Smid, 1st rounder 07, 2nd rounder 08 (and 1st rounder 08 if Ducks make SCF)

happens usually once a year

whenever you the phrase "conditional draft choice" that means the pick depends on what happens

I recognize that it occurs based on team performance or a resigning player but what about individual player performance based?

To get Lindstrom, the Ducks surrendered a conditional selection in the 2010 entry draft. The Blue Jackets will receive a fourth-round pick if Lindstrom appears in 40 regular-season or 15 playoff games with the Ducks next season. Otherwise, Columbus will get a seventh-round choice.

You can make the condition pretty much based on anything. There was one last year or the year before where pretty much it was a player for a conditional 7th rounder. But the team never got the 7th because the condition wasn't even reachable. It was more of here we are helping you out but we have to potentially take something back.

I know the Leafs get a mid-round pick if Pogge plays in an x-amount of games with the Ducks.

Also, the Oilers get a conditional from NJ for Sestito.

From the above link you can go back to previous years as well and see what the conditions were after every round, if there were any. If you scroll to the bottom of this link you will see what conditions apply this year, some are sourced so you can check the backup.
