Backes Keep your head up

Dregor reported that Backes told the swiss player who's neck he broke earlier this year that he should keep his head up or he'll do it again. Backes then ran him into the wall.

when I heard this I thought of Marchment telling a rookie in his 1st NHL game that if he comes across his blue line he'll take out his knee and end his career. this was intimadating and was on the line. That being said Backes's comments may have crossed the line.

all though Dregor said the USA thought his comments may have been lost in translation. Damage control.

Your thoughts.

So he is telling him to keep his head up, isn't that what the guy should be doing?

I really don't see this going anywhere although maybe the Olympic commitee deals with things differently then the NHL.

I think this is just tsn/the media blowing another controversy/story out of preportion. No one knows what Backes actually said. it is all speculation at this point.

This is the type of player the Oilers are lacking right now. An intimidating player.

Wait, intimidation in hockey???

OMG...call in the feds!

It's a man's game. If you can't take threats from the opposition and go running to your Mommy to tell her every mean thing that was said to you, then go home!

It's called trash talk....it happens in Peewee too!

I've heard much worse go by without a clitch in Men's League. Nothing to see here IMO, other than a baby whining about part of the game.

Yep. That's the kind of player Oilers need badly, not Comrie's and O'Sullivans.

I can't wait for Backes and that whole USA team to get crushed by the boys on Sunday night. Like I mean crushed.

Steve Moore says hi.

jokes aside, its not a man's game. its a kids game played by a lot of kids who are overpaid and a couple "men" who actually have a fully 'mature' mentality and use it on the ice.

how many threats does Nik Lidstrom throw out a game anyway now that were talking Machismo? how many rings?

oh yeah, i forgot - the Oilers definitely have a team made up of "men"

Sounds like a lot of what the Oilers could use in spades.

I don't think so either. Americans have legit NHL stars on their roster (Parise, Kessel, Kane), as well as a plethora of solid NHLers--Kesler, Langenbrunner, Rafalski, Orpik and others.

Not to mention the star goal-tender. Because play-offs are one game at a time, I could see a few upsets. Teams like US, Czech Rep, Slovakia, Finland could totally knock out one of the favorites (Canada, Russia, Sweden).

They were lucky to beat Switzerland. I think we can score a nickle to their one on Sunday.

Why was Backes even playing hockey? I thought all Americans were at McDonalds and Wal Mart these days?

That's as ignorant as me saying the Patrice Cormier hit doesn't surprise me coming from a Canadian athlete

You'd be a little less of a cocky asshat if we started discussing medal count in relation to both population and funding dollars spent, but I'd hate to hurt your feelings on a school night.

Asshat?...hmmmm, ok. I guess Swedes aren't really known for their creativity. If you're really that offended though bog, let's keep it hockey related. After all, this is a hockey discussion board right? How 'bout them broads of yours tonight? Looking good!
