I believe the Blues have alot of cap space left this year to eat Huet + Gomez salary for this season and it doesn't put them over tagging cap so I dont think its a problem

I confirm. Huet just is not the answer and his 2 years left on his contract kill us

Aliu and that 1st could hurt us down road but Junland is a good player and a 3rd is good enough

Press conference to come at some point tonight.[/I]
I confirm.

Mason is an improvement in net and as a UFA after season we feel he puts us in better financial situation

Sharks re-sign two key RFAs

Joe Pavelski- 2 years 3.55 million.
Devin Setoguchi- 1 year 2.5 million.

Quote:
We are very pleased to see these two young talented players, re-sign. While the terms for both players were short, we expect they will be members of this team for a long time.

Huet does push us close to the cap, but it doesn't matter as Price and Conklin are our duo.

St-Louis waives Huet.

In the first trade, we have traded goaltender Carey Price, forward Scott Gomez, defenseman Jaroslav Spacek and our 2010 1st round pick to the St-Louis Blues for forwards David Perron and Lars Eller, goaltender Chris Mason and St-Louis 2010 2nd round pick.

Lars Eller was immediately asked to stay in Peoria since he was involved in another trade to come. We have dealt forward Lars Eller, defenseman Yannick Weber and St-Louis 2010 2nd round pick to the Minnesota Wild for defenseman Brent Burns and Minnesota 2010 4th round pick.

.

Press conference to come later.

I do. Eller is going to be the best player in that deal. Burns is overrated.

Is this something St.Louis ownership would do? Just seems kind of ridiculous to allow teams to take on vast amounts of salary, while gaining top picks and prospects only to just jettison said player to the minors without any consequence. Why couldn't Chicago just have done this and saved their prospects?

Edmonton has acquired young winger Matt Beleskey from the Ducks in exchange for JF Jaques and a 4th round pick in 2010

Edmonton has liked the style Beleskey has played for a while and has been really heating up playing along side with Getzlaf and Perry. Also we do no lose much toughness by losing Jaques since Beleskey is also a willing combatant.

Beleskey will join the Oilers soon and play in a top 9 role.

Thank god this won't happen in real life. Not saying it is unrealistic, just saying that it would go against everything Murray has said.

Also, that is an awful lot of turnover at the top end. Bringing in a super star forward and hall-of-fame d-man can signal to the other 21 guys on the roster they aren't good enough, or lead them to thinking the superstars will get it done (granted I doubt this will be a problem for Parise, Elias, or Brodeur). In all likelihood, those two deals could hand the cup to the Devs, but I actually had NJ-Chicago for the cup final pre-Kovy (nothing to do with his play thus far, I just don't like the emotional effects).

Granted I too am after a few star players, but it is funny how often stars don't win cups (I would have bet my life on Colorado when Selanne and Kariya signed).

Damn, Niedermayer was practically given away. I would rather have re-signed them. I'd have said Tendeby or bust, not even a 2010 2nd.

I've been shocked at how well Kovalchuk has meshed with the Devils, actually. The rest of the team seems thrilled to have him around, and after a few games his play has actually seemed to fit right in. Defensively he's not nearly as bad as advertised (he's no Pandolfo, but he's no Bure either), and the team seemed to take the move not as "we're not good enough," but as "Lou finally did something."

Parise especially has been absolutely thrilled to have Kovalchuk on the team, and Brodeur said in an interview the other day that this team is Parise's team now, not his. What Parise says is basically law.

As for Niedermayer... the downsides should be mitigated by the upsides. Most of the team has played with him before, we've got his brother already, and with his history with the coach and the team he should slot right back in where he left.

The reason these two trades will work for NJ is we're not asking these guys to be key players. The top line is still Parise - Zajac. The top defenseman on the team is still Paul Martin. Kovalchuk and Niedermayer are supplemental pieces, not key ones. When the team starts meshing, the Devils are absolutely going to tear through the competition.

Eckford is going to be a great NHLer. I wouldn't have traded him, but my almost-NHL ready prospect depth on defense is practically overflowing at the moment.

I had a soft heart for Neidermayer,

I want him to win a cup before retiring, best chance for him is back in New Jersey.

In order to get the Devils under the roster limit, Piere-Luc Letourneau-Leblond has been waived with the intent that he be assigned to Lowell.

EDIT: On that note. The Dallas Stars will hide their face in embarrassment while giving Kari #1 duties. We're looking to move Marty Turco and Alex Auld, and will look to acquire #1B goalie.

Players likely to move today:

Steve Ott, Trevor Daley, Marty Turco.

Gotten some interesting offers in for Brendan Morrow and Mike Modano, will consider.
So this means are deal is off?

UPDATE

Max Pacioretty is still on the block for a number 2 center. Depending of the player, we are ready to add to the deal. We are currently looking at a couple options but nothing appears to be imminent.

Hal Gill and Paul Mara are available for a pick or a prospect.

PM!
