Rogie Vachon's debut 02/18/1967

Rogie Vachon made his debut with the Montreal Canadiens on this day in 1967 with a 40 save win over Detroit.

Vachon should be in the Hockey Hall of Fame, in the opinion of many hockey fans and media.

Vachon was a good goalie but not hall of fame material

Vachon had some great seasons in LA, with GAA under 2.00 and probably deserves the HOF entry for his play in the 1976 Canada Cup, when Dryden was unavailable. Vachon stepped in and did superbly. He may have played every minute of the tourney if I recall right.

Good memory BC, I had to look it up, but you're correct.

GP 7 W 6 L 1 T 0 SO 2 AVG 1.36

He was also voted our team's (Canada) MVP. Which is strange since Bobby ORR was voted the tournament MVP.

Vachon had a good tourny but one major feat does not earn hall of fame. He was good goalie but not an elite. His career GAA was around 3.00 despite playing on some great teams early in his career

1972-73 Vachon 2.85 his backup Edwards 3.62
1973-74 Vachon 2.80 Edwards 3.23

1972-73 Vachon 2.85 save percent .931 ; Ken Dryden .907; T. Esposito .906
1974-75 Vachon 2.24 save percent .926 ; Ken Dryden .906; T. Esposito .905

From 1972 through 1978, Vachon recorded between 4 and 8 shutouts every year playing for a quite porous Los Angeles defence.

In the end, that porous defence, allowing an average of over 30 shots per game is what is keeping Vachon out of the Hall of Fame, imo.

Great sideburns, OUTSTANDING mustache (HHOF worthy), but the hair cut was so-so.

If they let Rogie in the Hall opens up the door for many good but not great goalies to get in the Hall

Vachon >>> Cheevers

That said, there are a few goalies I've seen who were better than Cheevers, who aren't in the HOF.
