Or you can look at the sum of each team's finishes since 1998:

1. CAN: 4 + 1 + 7 + 1 = 13
2. FIN: 3 + 6 + 2 + 3 = 14
3. RUS: 2 + 3 + 4 + 6 = 15
4. SWE: 5 + 5 + 1 + 5 = 16
5. CZE: 1 + 7 + 3 + 7 = 18
5. USA: 6 + 2 + 8 + 2 = 18
7. SVK: 7 + 13 + 5 + 4 = 29
8. GER: 9 + 8 + 10 + 11 = 38

These are the only teams to play in all four Olympics.

My friend and I at work have been looking at this, , and we think it's possible to come to a combination of some sort. Account for overall finishes yet also find a way to factor in medal performances.

It is interesting. I think it's due to the fact that any of the top 7 really can win any given tournament, though there are favorites.
