Shootouts

The game is on the line, this is make or break time. You score on the shootout and you go to the playoffs (or if it was possible, win the Stanley Cup); however you miss and you go home (or lose the Stanley Cup).

This had got me thinking, if you could pick one Rangers shooter, post-lockout, to take that huge shootout attempt, who would it be?

I really had a me thinking, I think I would personally take Michael Nylander to take that shot. I chose Michael because he was always so crafty that he could come up with something creative to score on the goalie.

I didn't choose Jagr or Gaborik because they both have struggled to score, and I know that you guys will say you have to have your best players take the big shot.

But for this example, it is the 2nd round, so the top player has already gone.

My question for you guys is, which Rangers player, post-lockout, would you have take this huge shootout shot??

Petr Sykora.

Nylander was always a leadoff guy

Marcel Hossa was money in the shootout. Some players struggle with the pressure of being in the shootout and he was calm, cool, and collected.

He had that nifty little shootout move that beat Marty:

Marek MF Malik. Seriously, Shanahan, Prucha, Nylander, or Hossa for me.

I forgot about Shanny, I think I would definitely put him ahead of Nylander. I think I disagree with Zherdev however. I say this becuase he always did the same move, but that's just my personal opinion.

Surprised no mention of Nigel Dawes yet. I don't have the numbers in front of me but I remember him being quite successful and could do it a number of different ways.

Yep, I was thinking about him as well.

I guess my list would be something like this:

Nylander/Shanny, Shanny/Nylander, Dawes, Hossa, Prucha.

But feel free to continue to post because I'd like to see some different opinions.

Nylander was my favorite shootout guy. Very shifty.

Nylander, Prucha, Sykora, Hossa, Shanny

Nylander, Shanny, Hossa. Consider the game won.

I HATE the shootout and it should be taken out back and shot.

To change topics for a minute, I agree with nyrmetros. I'd rather have a 10 minute Overtime, and if no one wins, both teams either get no points or one point, and the game is considered a tie.

Back on topic: Has to be Nylander... he always went in slow and did a forehand-backhand roof shot.

On a serious note... Nylander was pretty good in the skills-competition during his stint here. So was Dawes, Zherdev, Sykora & Shanny.

Zherdev sucked. He scored a few times on the same move and then the goalies started adjusting, but he didn't.

I would take Shanahan

IMO I'd prefer a 5 round shootout. I hate how quick a 3 round shootout feels. It's very deflating when a team plays awesome all game and then loses a quick 3 round shootout.

On topic: Shanahan, Nylander, Hossa

Chris Drury. He's clutch, remember?

Seriously though I'd have to go with either Shanny or Dawes. Both were awesome in the shootout for us.
