Patzold should have had the 1st one - he's not playing with confidence. This is a tough matchup for Germany and to be down early with a shakey tender does not look well for success.

My first period assessment is that the Germans could keep it close, but I don't see their offense being good enough to top Backstrom more than maybe once.

Why is Kai Hospelts name familiar? Did he play in the NHL at some point?

"Selected by San Jose Sharks round 7 #216 overall 2003 NHL Entry Draft"

I think this look says it all on that goal

Haha, so I probably recognize his name from when we complain about our drafts or something. I assume he never made it over to North America?

Nope, he's stayed in Germany.

and Seidenberg looks like he's going to kill someone (and by "someone" I mean Patzold. Or Krupp for putting Patzold in) in that pic.

Sorry Pierre, you're wrong. Everyone is intimidated by Douglas Murray. Douglas Murray would probably intimidate himself if he wasn't Douglas Murray.

He did get a few games, looks like his Pro carreer in North America didn't work out
for him or he got homesick - he's playing for Ingolstadt ERC this season.

He only came in as a replacement. He never started. and a for his pro career, the former is the reason he went home, not the latter.

Patzold's Spiderman 3 helmet compliments his game very well.

Basically that the Fins play at home on hybrid rinks (sized in between international and NHL sizes) and that, combined with their love of physical, grind-it-out hockey means they won't be intimidated by Douglas Murray even if he is 250 lbs.

and jesus Patzold, you should've had that one too.

PUT. GREISS. IN.

Thanks.
Edit. And if they're not going to intimidated by Crankshaft, then I'm sure they also have no problem with being Kronwall'd. Should be an awesome game.

He did start as a Pro in the AHL and ECHL, not in the NHL

That's from the first goal right? I blame him less on the 2nd goal, but man, it sure is a good way to see how much better Greiss is...

See that Patzold? See that? That's how you maintain puck awareness.

wow. Krupp's been ruining German hockey since before the Sr national team. TSN broadcast just told the story of when the WJCs were in Halifax, Krupp was coaching the Germans and they absolutely bombed. So the 200+ German fans that made the trip over the Atlantic rather loudly started calling for Krupp's firing and Krupp responded in the media with something to the effect of "If the fans don't like it, there are return flights to Germany leaving twice daily."

classy.... It also kinda explains his Patzold man-crush.
