Add in that Gustavsson will want atleast 2.5M, maybe more, and they'll most likely resign him, that could be 10M for 6 players, comes out to 1.667M per player. They aren't going to spend a bunch on Plekanec.

Have you not read the Leafs forum?

They will do anything to not give the bruins another top 5 pick, even if it means over paying UFA's.

No, I don't visit our rivals forums a ton..

If they sign Plekanec, they'll have 5M to fill 5 roster spots. To me, you need secondary scoring too if you want to win.

I doubt Toronto outbids us.

I think Toronto might want to pick him up. A great two way player who's in his prime. How much will they get him for? I dunno. Not sure if the habs will be able to resign him.

They are in the same position than we are. Now I guess you'll say ''well what if they move Finger and some other useless dude?'', I preemptively answer ''well what if we move/not re-sign Mara + one of Spacek or Hamrlik?''

Ooooo, I'm scared! Well not really. Yeah I wouldn't underestimate him or the possibility of him signing with the Leafs but why Toronto? There's several others you can throw onto that list but I suppose him going to the Leafs is thrown around because A. It's Toronto and they have a beeline on every UFA doncha know? and B. Their hated rivals and would be one of the worst teams to see Plekanec bolt for. Burke's trial-and-error building by FA is not as sound a strategy as some disillusioned Habs fans would think. Grass is always greener on the other side as they say, but really it isn't.

No way burkes goes after pleky, he does not like euros and let us be honest; pleks is not the type that likes to go to corners.
Just waite from now until July 1st and look at the amount of euros that will leave. Actually look at it since Burkes joined the leafs.

Burke's building through trades rather than FA. His 3 biggest acquisitions came via trade route. That said I have no idea the logic behind his thinking. You need cheap contributors to win. Those cheap contributors come through the draft, picks he spent irresponsibly. The Kessel deal was a gamble in which he lost big.

There's no one on the leafs that would be better for the habs than Plekanec...We don't have good depth going forward.

If Montreal isn't going to resign him I would hope we trade him and hopefully before the trade deadline.

Gauthier has said emphatically that he wants to sign him and Pleks said he wants to sign here. It'll be a small tug of war, but it will get done. Leafs are not getting him.

Two goals in two Olympic games, not bad so far. What a line he's playing on.

Might seem kind of high but given what Moore and Cullen went for.....it is a seller's market....we want a first round pick and top prospect?

They have but it worth more than Pleckanec (like Kessel or Phaneuf as an example)

Right lets trade Pleks for a guy who's highest possible potential (with a great chance of never reaching it) is what Pleks has already become.

I could definitely see the Leafs making a hard run at Plekanec,

he's probably the 2nd best UFA option out there after Marleau, not too mention one of the only top 6 centre options.

Leafs have a huge need in that spot, so it's likely that they either try to trade Kaberle for a player to fill that role (not too many teams where that swap, top line centre for Kaberle, would seem like a fit) or they try to snag the best possible option on the UFA market.

Jokinen would be another possibility, but imo Pleks would be the more likely target despite his smaller stature.

Habs need to have pleks locked up before the season ends, or else will be watching him play elsewhere come next fall!
