Sam Gagner in the Dominican Republic

Hey guys
I just got back from Puerto Plata last night and I saw Sam Gagner there, staying at the same resort. He was hanging out with a group of Uni kids from University of Western Ontario, who I guess are his friends since he's from London.
It was pretty cool, I'm just wondering what he's doing not being with the Oilers, is he injured right now?

Olympic break is pretty much a vacation for all the non-olympians. Or were you saying that because he was injured he should be with the oilers?

The Oilers took the year off.

I'd be willing to bet that 75% of teh players not playing in the Olympics right now are somewhere on vacation, rechargin the ole' batteries, crushin' brews, and livin the life with their millions of dollars.

Stortini flew from Edmonton to Cancun with us and we've seen him at a club or two so far this past week. Nothing wrong with a guy taking a vacation during some time off.

There's about 4-6 Oilers and their families down here in Maui including the newly engaged couple from your team. I recognized Comrie who walked in front of me a couple of days ago.

No mention of PEDs? Watch Gagner come into next season built like a running back lol.

Seriously though he's probably just vacationing.

Vacation implies having been at work in the first place..

These guys take most of the games off and are there in body if not in actual performance.

I'm sure its been exhausting though with how much the club has extended itself.

very few hockey players are in the town where they play right now

as per the agreement--dressing rooms are closed so they can't hang out there and they are not supposed to even practice together

Are you visiting Maui? What part of the island did you see them in West Maui (Kaanapali, Napili, Kapalua) or South Maui (Wailea, Makena)?

You don't understand that pro hockey isn't just a job, it's a complete lifestyle. Diet has to suit, workouts, early starts and late finishes, extensive travel, 7 days a week for approximately 10 months of the year. It's definitely not easy, coming from some former players I'm close to.

Most of these guys don't want to play through their injuries, they need to heal them so they feel good again. They are pressured by the teams and are basically told to play. It's definitely not as sweet/easy as some people think, but these guys are compensated quite generously which is why they're willing to put up with this.

Yup, I plan on going all Paparazzi on guys that I'd rather kick in the balls than shake hands with.

Why? I don't live in either place unless you're talking about Little Beach? In which case unless Duff is there, no thanks! BTW-How would you know about that place? I know you had a condo here but did you indulge in nude sunbathing?

It's just in curiosity here those are the "high end" destinations, so I'm wondering which spot they chose.

Didn't want to start a new thread, so I figured I'd tack this on here. I got a text message from my brother in law who is in Cancun right now saying he's partying (in his words, obviously not all of them) with "the whole Oilers team & Dallas team"...

go figure huh... glad to see they're blowing off steam, instead of practising.

They're allowed to go back to practice on February 24.

What's the over/under for how much weight the Oilers will put on during the break? It is not like players would be going into the break motivated to work out and get mentally prepared for a final push. I am sure being away from work will do them some good mentally though, just like it does for all of us when we are away from the job for a week or so.
