For the sake of the Cup, TRADE MALKIN

Not because he's having a sub-par year. Well, Crosby or Malkin, I'll definitely deal Malkin. His trade value to a struggling team would be outrageous. We don't need the two best centers in the world.

It's not necessary. Crosby needs wingers, and depth is a must. We closed out the break with three losses to three bad teams. Change is needed.

What would you guys take for him?

You don't trade generational talents you look for them and when you find them you keep them. I believe that is the name of the game.

It's always fun to get a conversation for the sake of "what if" going, but if you want to get along with people around here you need to leave this kind of thing alone.

People on these boards don't respond well to "Trade one of the greatest players in the world, simply because we lost in a shootout to Nashville" threads...

To be fair to you, we could get a boatload of good players for Geno, but keep in mind that we won the Cup last year with 3 deep centers and sub-par wingers. Shero will grab something to upgrade at the deadline, but he would be nuts to even consider trading Geno.

I can guarantee cup victory if the Penguins trade Malkin, if not I guarantee they bow out to Washington. Pittsburgh's horrendous wingers can not and will not get the job done again, use sense, and trade him.

I'd take Langenbrunner and a 3rd for him.

Fair enough. It was just a suggestion.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just go after Kovy in july? I think he wants to win can you guys fit a hossa like contract maybe averaging around 6 and change per year over the course of the contract?

If they did something that drastic, they would literally have AHL players making up their 3rd D and 4th line. The cap space isn't there.

I guess this is the effect of the official Penguins message boards getting shut down. Mods please send this thread to burn in message board hell.

If, hypothetically speaking, we were able to get 2 wingers and a center, all capable of 60+ points and all on 3m-3.5m contracts at most, locked up for multiple years, plus one or more high picks or prospects...

...I would think about it.

Short of that, why even consider it? Hell...short of that, how could you possibly even consider it?

I'd only do it for some massive overpayment such as Getlaf + Perry, or Toews+ Kane

For the sake of the cup, trade last seasons Conn Smythe trophy winner! Yes!
