John Davidson has already said Backes is not going anywhere so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

this has been shot down numerous times over the last month. John Davidson has publicly stated again and again that David Backes is not available.

Not that I think this particular rumour will come true, but GM's rarely come out and admit someone is available. A recent example is Sutter with Phaneuf.

To me this just doesn't make sense from a hockey perspective. Why would STL give up on Backes? And what would STL want from the Canucks that they would be willing to give up? I don't think there are good answers to these questions.

Not saying that an available player is indeed available is not the same thing as saying a player is unavailable.

Saint Louis has no reason to trade Backes, and Davidson acknowledged that the rumors are complete BS.

Really wish Backes was a Canuck instead of Backup Plan Bernier.

The rumor doesn't make much sense. The Blues really wouldn't be clearing a ton of cap room by moving Backes since he only makes $2,500,000 million/per. Backes is worth that much even if he isn't scoring because he does all the little things so good. Also, if the Blues want to clear cap room at forward, all they have to do is wait until the deadline/off-season and Kariya ($6,000,000) and Tkachuk ($2,550,000) will be coming off the books.

I'd guess that a D-Man like Eric Brewer ($4,250,000) or Barret Jackman ($3,625,000) would be much more likely to get traded since they both make a lot of money and the Blues have a lot of good young D-Men on the way.

This really doesn't make much sense. The only way I could see it happening is if the Blues are very very very very high on Schneider AND the Canucks know it. Backes just seems way too valuable to St Louis.

I don't even want to say this outloud, but I guess the other possible scenario would be the Canucks moving Hodgson for Backes.

Why does St. Louis do this? I think all there is to this is Gillis obviously likes Backes. He's just the type of forward the Canucks need, but why does St. Louis move him?

I don't know St. Louis's goalie situation, but with Chris Mason perhaps retiring sometime in the near future they could be looking for a replacement. IF Backes were to be traded to Vancouver, would it be for Corey Crawford + something else?

unlikely, but only because our goalie prospect is Cory Schneider

the deal would be centered around cory schneider for starters, then throw in a roster player and maybe a 2nd or 3rd pick if he continues this olympic run
