Should we take a chance on Roman Cervenka?

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=15130

5'11, 187 pound Center from Czech Republic. 24 years old.

I've been pretty impressed with him so far this tournament. Apparently he's looking for an NHL contract and numerous teams are said to be interested.

Check out his stats this season:

48gp-30g-41a-71p

Hopefully Plekanec can sell him on Montreal. He could be a surprise like Milan Hejduk was. Worth a shot, no?

edit: So, 1 year later and Cervenka is coming off a fantastic season statistically for Omsk of the KHL.

51gp-31g-30a-61p

More points than teammates Jagr and Perezhogin.

Has anyone heard any updates about his interest in coming to North America?

I'd sign him the day the Olympics ended. Hell, if he wants a two way, come chill with his buddy Pleky, get some brews with Spacek and Hamr, steal some purses with OB, you know good times.
Sorry I wanted to sound ******* for some reason.
But seriously, I don't see this guy being able to demand a large NHL contract, so I'm sure the Habs could sign him for (relatively) cheap.

I think he'd have to sign a one-year entry level contract and something like 850K salary and 3.834M cap hit with the bonus at best.

Another small center? Had to say it before someone else.

Well, he can play wing too. And 5'11 187 isn't too small.

I'm also guessing he can be buried in the minors like Fleury was too?
It's a win-win, hopefully Pierre gets this one done.

I don't think he's good enough, but he's better than Engqvist and any of the other Swedish signings.

Except it's unlikely he'd want to play in the minors.

Wouldn't mind adding Jagr too.

Cervenka-Pleks-Jagr

Hell yes... It's not like Pacioretty will contribute offensively next year... or any other guy in the prospect system for that matter.

They also said that the Maple Leafs and Senators have been among 5 teams that have been in touch and seriously looking at him. His agent is hoping for far more teams after a strong Olympic showing. He's leading the Czech Republic league in scoring.

Jagr is apparently a huge fan of him.

Also, 5 teams (Toronto and Ottawa are 2 of them) were interested before the tournament but I'd imagine more will be by the end of it.

He has to sign a 1 year entry level deal.

They also said he's interested in playing in Canada.

Love the positive mentality around here. Heck if Boucher is the coach everyone says he is he should have Pacioretty "fixed" before the end of the year.

He'd have to go through waivers before playing for us, I believe.

That only works if the player is signed mid-season I believe.

Would love that. Not only is he a bonafide top 6 winger, he's also on an ELC for another year.

And I like the fact he has an attitude about him. Doesn't take no ****.
