Pyatt and the Bulldogs

I was at the Bell Center with my wife and nephew today to see the Hamilton Bulldogs take on the Phantoms. My nephews first trip to the Bell and he was having a blast... anyway, the best 'Dog by far was Tom Pyatt! Not only because he scored twice and set up Stevenson with a slick pass but because he did everything well. (Brock Trotter had the other two Bulldog goals for a 5-0 total)

The crowd of just over 15,000 cheered every time PK Subban was shown on the big screen or whenever he had the puck. Montreal definatly has a love affair with young Subban and the kid look great today, too. Making a couple of sweet moves on the point to fool the Phantom forwards and keep the play onside.

Cedric Desjardins was also great, making some really good saves.

David Desharnais was flying aswell, notching two assists.

Max Paciretty didn't play, anybody know why??

The biggest thing we noticed was that Hamilton has a heck of a lot more grit and sandpaper than the Montreal Canadiens do. Ryan White was a pest and the closest to dropping the gloves. Neilson was nailing everything that moved as was Conboy. Greg Stewart had a decent game, eclipsed by a bone-headed penalty, mind you. Alex Henry and Shawn Belle were solid and tough on D. I really think Belle should get another shot with the Habs at some point.

Anyway, just a mini-report on the Bulldogs for y'all.

Of course not, the guy has blazing speed and goes to the areas you need to go to, anyone can play with Gomez/Gionta and look good if they can keep up to the play.

Wait until Subban plays for the habs an goes on a 10 game pointless streak how pleased the great fans of Montréal really are. Sometimes I relish being in Renfrew.

That is great news. I really like White's play. If he could scored, he would be the total package for a Power Forward we long have needed.

If only he made 3 million less, he is a good player but cause of the cap NHL, he stand out in a bad way.

I was there as well. Pyatt, Trotter, and Desjardins definitely deserved to be the three stars (in that order).

Subban looked good, but that's about it. On offense, he was his typical self, making people look foolish. In the neutral zone and in his own zone though, he cheated and got burned more than once, but thankfully it never resulted in any goals against. God love him, but he needs to make the simple play sometimes (particularly when the puck is not on his stick).

I think Pyatt definitely gets called up after the Olympics, and Subban and White have a legitimate chance at getting called up depending on the circumstances.

It seems to me the next call up should be Boucher for that very fact.

White = Turner Stevenson so far, only a bit smaller. In White's defence, or rather Timmins, he did not cost us a FIRST round choice like Turner did! Hopefully, Ryan continues to improve footspeed and scoring touch.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...
Man...I love beeein a Turtle.

oh wait that's not it. I meant: The future is bright!
One thing from watching the Olympics is the level of talent that exists in the hockey world. Still you need to work work work. I think the Dogs crew has that mentality. You can't however expect them to put up that effort in the NHL consistently. Right now, Pyatt is my favourite because I think he can skate very competently with SG and BG. White will be awesome on our bottom six.

Subban, well, it's pretty obvious who our next "Koivu" is.

Have to say though, I love Cammelleri and it's nice to have a down to earth sniper who shows up every game and who is a true leader. Come baaaack

Agreed. When the trade was first made I was like Pyatt...who is he. Since I have come to appreciate his play very much.

ONLY 3 million?! are you kidding me! you might as well say, if he was ONLY 7 million less he'd be worth his salary. 3 million is a whole player! we could get another andrei kostitsyn for 3 million bucks.

Yes he did. Except for that one game where he scored 2G, he wasn't amazing there hence the -2 and 12Min of avg ice time.
Pouliot didn't look out of place on the top line, you can say that about him.
Pyatt on the other hand has no business there, he's a 3rd liner at best for now. He's a defensive player with decent offensive upside that he still needs to develop. Meanwhile, the offensive Desharnais is placed on 4th line.
