I was chirped once because I wore the number 23, the number that my coach always gave me in minor hockey.

The guy said something like, "Hey *******, Michael Jordan plays basketball, not hockey". Alright there, buddy. Kinda grasping at straws, there.

Lol that's unbelievable. They must have been sucking all night long for him to make that crap up.

When I got back into hockey after a 15 year hiatus I got chirped for wearing my long hockey pants - AKA Cooperalls. I also got chirped for my two tone white and blue Cooper helmet. Well, since then I got new gear.

well you did say that you play like him

I'm sure that will come into play every once in awhile where there is a legit reason like a birthday year (Crosby) or remembrance of a family member who may have passed in a certain year (Jagr). But for the most part, you can tell who these people are.

I like the Christmas Story lift

The worst trend I see developing is the obsession and weird arrogance of these well to do tweens who come out to stick and puck and wonder why you have a certain type or brand of skate if you dont play professional hockey.

I dont know why I have a one95 stick, just like the guy next to me didnt know why he bought 9k skates at age 29 if he wasnt atleast playing for Peoria.

Weird.

I never chirp unless theres a flashy superstar who isnt humble or cant back their fashion statement up with their play. Roller is obviously a cesspool and ice isnt too far behind. Could care less about a equipment, but when your play suffered and you genuinely look like you groomed yourself for a game, it just serves as testament to your inflated sense of self.

Yeah but most people knew why I do it and they are pretty cool about it. This guy just would not shut up. The part of him saying I don't deserve to wear that number was the final straw. Ref knew what was coming(he was my cousin's best man in his wedding) and kind of told the other team to shut him up because I would do something. Well, they tried and I know this because they tried prying him off the ice. Would not go. So after the goalie froze the puck I went up to him and said what I had to.

Hell, I know guys that wear certain because they like the guy...I say who cares.

My favorite ones are the ones with the humor jerseys. Guy had a Sabres Jersey with ANDY DELMORE.

If you are playing in a bear league, I suggest you get some top end gear.

I suggest this:

If he's strapped I bet nobody says a word to him-not even about the 80's porn stache. Which is the entire point of this thread-if you can back it up you could hit the ice with a yellow boa around your neck. Nobody wants to be the guy that got the bejesus kicked out of him by the weird guy with the boa.

i always played with number 8 because of Selanne, and just because ive always played with 8. I always got beaked for having a rubber response in bantam.

or Yellow laces, in black bladed skates with a mullet, a jofa 366 helmet and a new pengs jersey on.

Wearing #8 is totally acceptable. A forward wearing #8 is like a goalie wearing #1. It's common.

This. I like 8 because its my birth day. A lot of forwards also seem to choose low numbers and 8 is just popular.

What if it's a girl wearing them though? I've seen some rather pretty pink and white TPS Summits that I might consider when it comes time to buy my roller hockey gear.

Although I've been taking some chirps from a friend lately, just put pink laces in my ice skates, and have matching skate guards. I'm also considering pink blade tape...it's my favourite colour, and I'm a girl, so sue me!

No one should ever get chirped for wearing #8. Many, many players have worn that. It doesn't have the same aura as say 99, 87, or 66. Just my $0.02...

You can usually tell by looking at someone if they're wearing #8 for Neely(they're crying about Ulf Samuelsson ) or someone like that or Ovechkin. Some guy with a mirrored visor and skate laces on his pants isn't doing it 'cause of Geoff Sanderson.

You could tell them you are copying Dennis Wideman for my bruins who has not had a good year at all. His tongues ain't a helpin'.

Hey do what you do and screw 'em.
Actually I started doing it because of Chris Pronger haha
