What gear will get you "chirped" at? (Besides a tinted visor)
Saw some guy last night with a half cage? Wtf? lol He def heard it from me.
One of my teammates has a half-cage. It makes sense if you prefer cages over visors, but I think it looks goofy.
One thing I'm really picky about is consistency in my field of vision. I don't like half-anythings because the bottom half of your vision is noticeably different from the top half. This is why I just wear a full cage in league play, and just a helmet to pickup.
You dont chirp a dudes 'stash here, will get smoked in the face.
In my experience they guys that are like "in my league/where i come from, we only care about hockey, there is no beaking!" and "its not about fashion, its about hockey" get beaked the most or dont actually play so they try to down play the chirping.
The only equipment that gets cat calls is the ones where guys are trying to have "a look" other then that of a regular hard nosed player like Brendan Morrow.
Any tape/laces besides white or black, tinted visor, jersey tuck, sock manipulation etc that a player does, "just to have that look deserves a mention.
Mismatched and old equipment are a badge of honor. Guys that complain about mismatched equipment should stay home and watch "Ugly Betty".
I wear the itech undershirt with kevlar neck guard. I guess it looks like a low turtle neck, that'll get me chirped at?
I got a wife and 3 kids to take care of, don't want spill my blood all over the ice if it ever happens, need to work the next day.
What if you buy skates that already have yellow laces? should you change them out?
No, and no. I wear a neck guard, and am glad I did as I see guys flailing their sticks up high - though it is not comfortable and sweated into it to the point I could feel its weight on me. My Grafs have yellow laces, and people can rip all they want on my lack of hockey or skating skills, but they can kiss my tushie before they can knock my yellow laces, esp. since my 6-yr old daughter "thinks they're cool."
I think a tinted/mirror visor looks ridiculous. And the print or color tape looks amateur.
I actually like when guys put on the yellow laces, pink tape, etc. One of the best guys for the other team last week was using Canadian flag tape so it was easy to shut him down. Other guys with bright yellow tape, shut them down. At our low level, guys with visors tend to be better than guys with cages. And of course guys who wear #9 tend to be pretty good (most of the 99's are awful for some reason).
Makes me glad I wear the cage, white laces, black or white tape. I do wear #9, but I play D so nobody sees the back of my jersey
the only things i chirp for are tinted visors, colored laces, a guy who sucks but is decked out in 1500 worth of equipment and the occasional weird piece of equipment like the cateye cage on a skater helmet or an m11 helmet even though they are nice and maybe alot of cotton tape on their socks or laces on the outside
oh and guys who wear their juniors/college uni and matching socks pretty much to show off
People who use the RBK "Crosby" edition stick get chirped by me, also people who wear 87,99, 0.
yea certain numbers i chirp too. i chirp my own teammates for wearing them
we all chirp the refs, luckily most guys in our league all know each other and the stripes so its for the most part in good fun but the refs get heated some times because they dont call icings
What's with the people who chirp guys with M11 helmets? One of my teammates has three concussions and switched over this year after #3.
I took some flack for my M11, but it was because in a hurry I pulled the cage for just a full pads skating session and left the clips on the sides. Where they sit on the M11 makes them really stick out and noticeable and I got a few comments if I was going to try and fly with those "wings" My buddy did the same thing on his Bauer and the clips just seemed to follow the contour of the helmet and not be noticeable.
Coming back into the locker room, I saw my reflection in the mirror, and they were right. I looked like a total dork the way those cage clips stuck out.

its a great helmet, its just based off of reputation. cascades old helmet was the ugliest helmet in history, even uglier than the old gretzky jofas
the m11 is not a bad looking helmet, the "M11" on teh front is a bit gaudy but other than that its not bad. its also probably the best designed helmet ever. infact alot of helmets made by easton and bauer are starting to use their one piece design they made but the m11 is still the best helmet out there
Yeah the Cascades were horrible looking, M11 is really nice IMO. Doesn't look out of place at all with the rest of them.
I can't see how the M on the front is any different than the E on Eastons or Reebok logo though. If you're worrying about that crap, you're not playing the right sport.
