What gear will get you "chirped" at? (Besides a tinted visor)
You mean the same way people have worn their skates since the beginning of time? I've been playing longer then OV has been alive and I've always worn my tongues out.
This is a little ridiculous, seriously. If you look unique or you'll get chirped, if you look like someone else you'll get chipred. Some of the things listed are common practices in hockey, like taping and yellow laces (Graf's come standard with yellow laces). Others are for the protection of the user, cages, visors and higher end equipment.
To the OP, wear what you want. The only person who's opinion matters is the one starring back at you in the mirror.

There is a difference between tongues out and flop.
No one chirps because you tape your stick
and your last sentence is pretty obvious, of course you should wear what you want.
since it seems to very difficult for some to understand. if you have a cage you are gonna get beaked, if you dont wear facial protection you are gonna get beaked. If you have the newest lightest greatest stick out you are gonna get beaked. If you are using some old wooden montreal multilam you are gonna get chirpped. if your skates are old or you are wearing vapor X60's you are gonna catch hell. now pay very close attention...
GETTING CHIRPPED IS PART OF THE GAME. If you cant handle it, that is the least of your worries. think about it, these 2 weeks are a perfect example. the boys of the NHL are trying to put each other through the glass this week in Honour of their home countries, In 10 days they will go back to their teams and stand up for each other and drop the mitts or lay the big hit in an effort to win The Cup. its a game, the **** that happens on the ice is part of the game, when the final horn sounds lets go out in the parking lot and have a couple of beers together. Thats why hockey is so special.
In a beginner league, we don't chirp about anybody else's equipment
except the guy wearing these.
Wow. I've never played ice hockey and I know virtually nothing about equipment and what is acceptable/not acceptable, but damn. Even I would know not to wear those monstrosities.
It's funny, I actually got pair of Roces Inline skates that look very similar a couple years ago for just doing some fitness skating, and when I got my first Hockey skates I suffered through the break-in time just wishing my Hockey skates were as comfortable, were as easy to tie, and had as much ankle support as those Roces Inlines.
Now though that everything is broken in, and I'm used to them, I can't imagine trying to play in skates like those. I feel bad for the guy, he struggles with most things, and the blades howl and shimmy whenever he tries to do a hockey stop. I can't imagine the blade holders are all that strong. And I don't there there's much (or any) puck protection on those things.

For skating around, I'm sure they're just fine. I just can't imagine anyone playing hockey in them.
My friend has all Ovechkin gear(sticks, skates, gloves, helmet). His skates didn't come with the yellow laces, so he bought them.
The worst part about this is that he's only been skating for about five years. He can't do crossovers or even stop properly
Lol, that's pretty funny.
I have a friend sort of like that. He doesn't buy all Ovechkin stuff, but he wears ALL Reebok gear. He has like all 9K stuff now, and is going to be buying 11K gear soon (pants, skates etc.). And he wears lime green laces. He's actually quite good though, so I don't really bother chirping him.
i dont like it when people(usually teens or early 20's) overly use words they found off of gongshowhockey.com and think its cool and original. words like bender, duster, bookmark, chirp, etc. i use them every once in a while but not too much to the point where i sound like a tool like those people off of gongshowhockey website
I'd probably elbow you in the face and then chirp at you for getting elbowed in the face by a girl.
I hate guys that chirp at girls just for being girls.
Girl, or guy, I don't care, someone elbows me, I'm going to level them.
Though, I don't chirp, or anything, unless someone else does it first. They usually only do it when they're losing, so all I have to do is point to the scoreboard.

What about the guys that use to go on the JHB before it was gongshow?
Most guys who played minor hockey knew the terms before gongshow was even a brand. Its like saying most people go to a wiki to learn swear words
