Hockey Fickle Boards...?

Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed the game, and this USA squad has a certain appeal to it.
Having seen all the big 6-7, I don't think anyone can skate with the US or Russia.

I like Drury as much as the next guy, but Vanek for Drury straight up? No.

If he were guaranteed to play as well as he did here and for the same price, then yes.

So no.

The trade I proposed on the main board a few days ago:

To Buffalo:
Drury
Dubinsky
Stepan

To NYR:
Vanek
Montador

The Drury we saw on the ice against Canada last night wouldn't be the same Drury I'd expect to see back in a Sabres uniform. Just try asking any Rangers fan that, they'd tell you the same thing. Between his contract and his half-heartedness in games that don't REALLY matter (which is the majority in my opinion) then you don't get a good return frankly. That said, no deal, unless there's a serious underpayment for him or the Rangers eat up more than half his salary.

How about we ship Vanek to the highest bidder then trade a quarter as much to NYR for Drury?

They definitely could be looking to unload his contract.

I don't care if he makes 7m and gets 30 points a season, having a guy like that in the locker room is what this team needs. Lindy can definitely get the most out of him. I'm a firm believer that he isn't doing well in NY because he isn't in the Sabres system. Just seeing the passion that guy plays with brings back sooo many memories.

Ok someone slap me and wake me up.

Screw Drury, he's a crap player on a crappier contract. He's an excellent 3rd liner, a below average 2nd liner that got an inflated contract by a GM who thought he could resurrect glory by oversigning two centers. If you've seen his lack of drive and results in NY there's no way you'd want him back just because he stepped up his game for the USA. Its kind of like what we've talked about in the other threads about players going all out for a short tournament but are crap for the grind of the NHL season.

You will when we feel the squeeze. I think Drury would still have some time left on his contract when it comes time to re-sign Myers.

Chris Drury is in no way, shape, or form worth 7 million dollars given how he's been playing. It was really cool to see him and Miller during last night's game, but... (Insert Michael Scott "NO" gif here)

That was a great moment. Seriously despite his struggles with the Rags he was awesome for us when he played here. I know trading for him now is unrealistic, but Chain mentioned where he would land in 2 years when his deal is up. Would anyone have an issue with that being here? At a fraction of his current salary obviously.

Frankly, I thought Drury looked slow and out of place early in the game and I kept saying to myself, "Why isn't Goose out there?" He got better as the game went along and was excellent on the PK. I'll give him that. If he was making $2-3 million I'd want him back, and playing the wing, but at $7 and at center? No way.

Please, he chose the Rags over us, there is no love-loss here. But, he played a great 3rd period.

Why trade for him? $1 says he is bought out this summer. We'll be a team on the rise he can fit in with. Sign him to a 2 year 7 million deal. Goose-drury-Grier

edit: though roy and montador for drury dubinky and a 1st would be tempting

Most of this thread is just excitement and fun (I hope it is).

Last night was a little reminder of the excitement of 05-06 and 06-07 with Drury and Miller doing their thing.

I don't really want to trade Vanek for him if that will make you feel better

If Drury is bought out by the Rags and Sather keeps his job I'm going to start calling them the NY Bureaucrats. Now, if that happens and he's interested in signing here as a 3rd liner for that kind of money, I could possibly put the hatchet away.

This is what I was saying last night. I don't want him at current numbers, but I'd love it if he came back for realistic money after his deal is up.

He's still my favorite Sabre.

nope, Drury signed a 5 year deal. After this season he only has 2 years left. And his contract expires when Myers becomes a RFA.

There are no core players or important pieces that are going to command big contracts over the next two years.

I only want him back if we can get Dixon Ward and Danny Gare as his wingmen. Gare to pot the puck, Drury to cover for Gare, and Ward to be awesome.

His salary is 8 million next year and 5 million the year after. It's not un-doable but that 8 million is a huge number. I think he would fit in well on the team though, his salary would just be out of whack with his role.

Ah the memories... http://www.buffalonews.com/2010/02/2...y-win-for.html

VANCOUVER, British Columbia Lindy Ruff must have been having flashbacks Sunday evening as he stood behind the bench watching the whole thing unfold. Roll back the clocks a few years, back to when the Sabres marched to back-to-back conference finals and Ryan Miller would keep his team in games long enough for Chris Drury to win them.

Dru will be bought out after next season when only $5 mil remains on his contract. The Rangers will have to pay $3.3 mil spread over two years ($1.665 of dead cap space in 2011-12 and 2012-13). It would be moronic for the Rags to buy him out after this season. That's a Dolan decision, not a Sather decision, which may actually be even worse for the Rangers. If they bought him out after this season, the Rags would have to pay him roughly $8.66 mil to take a walk, and, additionally, take on $4.33 mil of dead cap space over the next two seasons. That's just not feasible with the amount of bad contracts that organization has.

I could see Regier, if he's still here, making a run at Drury after he's bought out in Summer 2011. That'd by Myers' third season and Miller would hopefully still be in his prime.
