Dominating performance against the cup favorites. Rangers looked like the real deal, then the olympics happened.

I have this game on my computer (one of them at least).

Like 6-12 months ago I wanted to watch a older NYR game, and I randomly picked that one. Didn't have a clue what game it was.

After watching the game I was like "Why again did Slats completely dismantle this team in the summer?????????". Insane. We played like the Red Wings. Held on to the puck, and completely dismantled a extremely loaded Ottawa team (Havlat, Chara, Hasek and a couple of others).

Sure, that team was soft as hell. No doubt. We also lost Rucinsky and Sykora in or right after that game -- which definitely hurt some. Then Jagr didn't even last one game in the PO's, its important to remember that. Its not like NJD dominated "us" in 4 straight, they dominated for 20 minutes, and then JJ went down. With him healty, we could just as well have won the series 4-1.

But Slats could have just complimented that team with a couple of more physical 3rd and 4th lineers -- and then given it a go another year. But of course not.

Anyway, I don't think anyone can watch that game today and say that they weren't shocked of how good we were. The thing is also, everyone complained on us for how we played. Kept passing the puck et c. Now, everyone wants to play exactly like that. lol

I know we didn't dominate or anything but the Avery game against the Blues in 07 was up there. I was at that game and when we won in the shootout the place went nuts, and it turned around our season.

December 1991. Mark Messier's first season with the Rangers. They were playing the Capitals in Landover,Maryland. The Rangers couldn't beat the Caps having been knocked out of the playoffs in back to back seasons. The Rangers were down 5-0 and they roared back to win 6-5. Messier had a big game.

I think that come from behind win in Montreal on Super Bowl Sunday (giants/pats). We were being dominated and then silenced the crowd with 4 straight. Kovalev elbows Hollweg, Hollweg runs Kostytien.

Febuary 2000 against Toronto. Rangers were down a couple of goals, we came back Leetch won it in OT. That game sticks out so much because I had seats in the last row of the lower bowl for the 1st time & everything kept happening in front of me. MSG was so loud it was amazing.

November 14, 2006. Rangers trail the Devils 2-0 after 2 periods. Jagr scores twice in :26 seconds and Shanny adds the go ahead goal 1:04 later. It was like a playoff atmosphere...

With that said, I think #2 would be Game 5 in New Jersey when we eliminated them from the playoffs in 2008 and at least 35% of the crowd were Ranger fans. I remember Gionta scoring early and this obnoxious Devils fan turned towards us and starting yelling "F you" and all kinds of crap for no reason... then Jagr found Rosey in the slot, tie game, he sat down quickly as the entire row of Ranger fans turned and pointed at him...

3rd on the list is Game 4 vs Pitt where Jagr scored (twice?) in his final game in MSG. Just fun to be there and see it.

Was that when Zherdev tied it up with about 7 (?) seconds left in the 3rd?

That's the one I was about to write about. Amazing game - took another 3 years to get a Cup, but right there you knew he had changed everything.

1994 at LAK (January or February)

Jump to 4-1 lead. Kings rally and score three to tie it in the 3rd (Robert Lang lol).

So they go to OT...Amonte gets a penalty shot in OT with like 30 seconds left. Hrudey stones Amonte, but with 1.5 seconds left in OT, Messier stuffs it past Hrudey for the win.

Awesome game. Glad I stayed up late to watch it.

That's when Randy Burridge was neck-and-neck with Mess for the Ross. That was a great game.

Another one is Kovalev's Hat trick in 1993 in OT or late in the 3rd to beat the Bruins 6-5.

Also, Mess' 1st game in 1991. Rangers handt won in Montreal since 1983. Mess comes to the team and they win 2-1 in OT on Weight's goal

One game that sticks out right away was Lindros's first game agaisnt the Flyers. Lindros scored the first goal of the game. The place was crazy and there had to be at least ten fights in the stands.

One Flyer fan brought a sign that read

Eric

I really liked the game we played last season in Detroit. We lose in OT but the pace and effort in that game was impressive IMO.

That was one of the best games I ever saw live. Place was going nuts. That it was against the Devils made it so much more enjoyable.

I guess I'll go with some newsworthy events...

1. January 1995 (vs. Buffalo I think) - Stanley Cup banner raising ceremony. How many times do you get to see that at the Garden?
2. Messier becoming the 2nd overall points leader.

March 17, 2003 St Pats day vs the Islanders. I remember drinking all day for the parade then going to the garden and seeing so many islander fans, couldn't believe it. The game was 0-0 in the thrid and the islander fans where ripping on the ranger and we weren't doing anything back, because typical ranger luck you open your mouth and the opposing team scores. Then Leetch takes the puck behind dunham on a power play with 8 minutes to go and goes coast to coast through all the islanders and top shelf for the goal. The Garden erupted like I have never heard before (at that time I had never been to a playoff game). Fights broke out all over the place in all 4 sections, it was an amazing game to be at. I remeber reading the papers the next day and the writers calling that game being the closest atmosphere to a playoff game since 97.

Rangers won 1-0

Live? Probably the home opener vs the panthers.First game for Drury & Gomez as rangers.Rangers down 2-1 to start the 3rd and roar back to win 5-2.Drury of course had the GWG Prucha started the rally.(thread answer)

TV? Definetly Game 3 vs the sabres.Rozsival's 2OT Winner was a insane feeling,NBC had the crowd volume up all the way and i had my TV blasting so it was a great sound to hear. (This is probably all-time for me since i wasint old enough to remember the good ol days)

Fetisov for the Devils plays it cross-ice into the far corner...Matteau swoops in to intercept, Matteau behind the net, swings it in front he scores! Matteau! Matteau! Matteau! Stephane Matteau! And the Rangers have one more hill to climb baby and it's mount Vancouver! The Rangers are headed to the finals!

Game I was At: TIE
a) Niki Zherdev's roof shot over Fleury with 7.6 seconds left, we win in shootout. I was with some family friends that are Pens fans, so it made it even sweeter.

b) 7-2 Schelacking of Atlanta in the 2007 playoffs

Game I watched on TV:
a) 2009 Playoffs Game 2. The most tense I've ever felt about a game, while watching it on T.V.. Henrik was a monster, and Callahan's goal was a thing of beauty.
