Jeez, what jackass laid the giant yellow mattress in front of the Swedish net?

US will play at 3:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Thursday is a day off.

They say that the US plays at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, and Canada plays at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, but if Finland wins this game in regulation, it could be US vs. Canada on Friday. So, unless that happens, US again plays at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
man, i just need to see a simple bracket.

Interesting note from Rangers history: Jarkko Immonen is playing for the Finns today, in place of Antti Miettinen.

Look on the bright side....if Finland lose they are 4th seed and get placed in the top half of the bracket, with teams like Czech Republic, USA, and Switzerland. The bottom half has teams like Slovakia, Canada, and Russia.

Would you rather Finland play Czechs in QF then USA in SF, or Slovakia in QF then Canada/Russia in SF?

If this result holds and Sweden wins, we are looking at a probable Lundqvist-Gaborik QF matchup. Maybe Lundqvist foresaw this and that would explain the "accident" in practice when Gaborik got cut.

Sweden's defense is so good, this must be a breeze for Lundqvist compared to the crap he deals with on the Rangers.

Still pumped over the US win. First in 50 years.

Saw this on ESPN...

No, Canada
Bow down to Uncle Sam
We'll take the gold
You laid down like a lamb
With frying pans you tended goal
We scored on you at will
From far and wide, Oh Canada
We're scoring on you still.
God keep your nets
Wide open and emp-ty
O Canada
We scored five goals on thee
O Canada
U.S. with gold you'll see!

Sweden! ok, now stop scoring

edit: 5 minute major! oh man, Kipper/Finland need to lock down. We can't have Sweden win 6-0 here

Wow, Lundqvist hasn't had to do anything this game! This must be a vacation for him. Wouldn't be surprised if he comes out for the third and strings a hammock from post to post

yeah, Sweden better not score a couple on the 5 minute advantage or we could be in trouble.

USA doesn't have to play Russia, Canada, OR Sweden until the finals should they make it that far? That's freaking awesome. They should probably cruise in the first game and then play a tough one in the Semis that I would probably have them winning. If you had told me that they would of been in such a good position to make the finals, I wouldn't of believed you.

games you are expected to win are the toughest. Next game will not be a cake walk, it will take mental toughness for them to go out and take control of that game.

Well so its settled then. Gaborik vs Lundqvist in the QFs. Of course unless Slovakia creates the choke job of a century and loses to Norway.

i would not mind Finland Sweden and Slovakia both losing their first games. Get Henrik, Gabby and Jokinen home sooner rather than later.

Darn, it wasn't out of reach there...

...but the Fing Ruutu brothers stood up really well and got Finland back into it somewhat.

Yea, by taking out Alfredsson. After Tuomo hit him in the third he missed a few shifts. They didn't mention it on TV and it wasn't to obvious since they were shuffling lines but he did skip a shift now and then after the hit. I hope it's nothing serious and that he'll be back at 100% next game.

After Kesler scored that fifth goal, it reminded me of when the Olympic hockey games were fun - with kids playing once again. Nice to see such a reaction and it's what I haven't seen enough in Olympic hockey since the format change. Miller was awesome in nets until that soft goal, then awesome again after. Great win by Team USA, and it's nice to see a contribution by Drury, first with a goal then with his signature blocked shot while laying his body on the line.
