As much as I didn't and still don,t agree with some of Yzerman's choice, to me tonight is a gimme. There's no way we lose that game. A win by 3 goals.

We'll then get our confidence back up and be a force to be reckon with. Tough competitions ahead though.

What are these choices everyone talks about?
I don't know any big changes that would affect the team, other than maybe Carter instead of Bergeron, but that's total hindsight.

Imo Martin Saint-Louis and Mike Green should be in Vancouver.

Canada (its selection process) always seems to down play speed and creativity in favour of size, grits and defensive awareness.

Anyhow USA are no powerhouse and I expect Crosby to lead the way!

Side note...

Imo Czech Rep. and Sweden are almost a lock for a medal (no matter the color) in this tournament. That scenario would leave Canada, Russia and Slovakia fighting for a medal. Anyone in here still consider Canada as a lock for the Gold?

I agree about St-Louis. The heart of a lion. Nothing about this game says "gimme". Could go either way. Anybody know who's starting for TC?

OH come on. Nobody's a lock for the medal round. One game elimination rounds are highly unpredictable and basing yourself on a sample of 2-3 games for each team to call some a "lock" is ludicrous at best.

Did you see Sweden vs Germany or did you just watch the standings and made this big revelation of yours? That game was as tight as the one between Canada and Switzerland. Germany is ranked 12th by the IIHF and the Swiss are 7th.

Canada, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Czech Rep and the US all have the talent and capacity to overcome another team on any given night.

Now with the emergence of Halak, Slovakia is creating a surprise, trying to make its place with those dominating teams, but to put them in the same boat as Canada right now, is just plain ridiculous.

It is no mystery why no country has been able to make a repeat ever since the NHL allowed its players to participate.

If my use of "lock" in the following sentence “Imo Czech Rep. and Sweden are almost a lock for a medal (no matter the color) in this tournament..." gives you urticaria, just replace it by "they are my favourites".

There... do you feel better?

As for "... Did you see Sweden vs Germany or did you just watch the standings and made this big revelation of yours?". I watch almost all the games (thanks to http://www.rdsolympiques.ca/hockey/r...les/index.html) but I did not see "Sweden vs Germany". However I saw Belarus vs Sweden and I was impressed, again, by Sweden; enough to consider them as "favourites".

Imo...

Czech Rep on a small NHL rink => a powerhouse

In 2010, Sweden > Canada

Hence "... Imo Czech Rep. and Sweden are almost a lock for a medal (no matter the color) in this tournament. That scenario would leave Canada, Russia and Slovakia fighting for a medal. Anyone in here still consider Canada as a lock for the Gold?"

I don’t “know” Stamkos very well but if the few games I saw are a good indication, he sure would look good in Vancouver! Heck it is very hard to go against his production:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.h...ewName=summary

I guess they left him out because of his age/inexperience... they did the same thing with Crosby in 2006.

Yeah I agree about Stamkos, he should of been called instead of Richards or Toews. St.Louis maybe, but there isn't a defenseman that I'd wantt o replace with Green though.

In my estimation:

Latvia
Germany
Belarus
Norway

have 0% chance at a medal.

Switzerland

has about 10-15% chance at a medal

Slovakia

has about 25-35% chance at a medal

Canada
USA
Sweden
Finland
Russia
Czech

have better than even odds at medals. I don't think Canada is in any better position than other teams in this group. A lot of pressure, a lot of good goalies.

That's pretty much my opinion too. Luongo or Brodeur could easily rise-up for a game, as can many goalies in the tournament, so putting teams like Canada and Russia lower than the other teams is a bit ridiculous.

Kjell Dahlin

Sorry but Canada won the gold medal on an american rink in 2002 so your Canada vs Sweden on a NA rink argument is totally absurd. And that's the whole point, you can't predict the outcome of one game, with so much talent in each team.

Something i'm confused about:
have we had 7 D dressed in the last two games?
Neidermayer, Pronger, Weber, Boyle, Seabrook, Keith, Doughty???

or did someone sit out last game. I know Seabrook didnt play much last game, but he was in the lineup. I don't remember Boyle, was he scratched (probably the 2nd best puck moving D we have.

It seems like our D lineup is...well...good, but full of unknowns for me.

what are your opinions on Seabrook and Keith at the Olympic level. Weber has been good so far, and Doughty had a bad play last game.

Will they be able to stop the offense of the other teams? I know they are solid in Chicago and Doughty in LA at the age of 19, but I was watching the salt lake gold medal game and the D lineup we had there was full of vets that you just knew you could rely on.

Pronger....DON'T TAKE PENALTIES. I just know he's going to cross check Parise and Kane who will go down like a deck of cards cuz of how small they are. The problem is that not taking them into the boards will result in giving them room. You cannot give them room.

Also, what are your reads on Staal and Toews so far?

Toews use has been almost restricted to fourth line and penalty kill duties - I do not think much will change in regards to that, because Babcock seems quite comfortable and reliable on Toews in that role.

As for Staal - I think he is the type of guy that will see more and more ice if things are not going well for the first two lines.

Both of them have played ok so far - Toews probably has been a little more impressive than Staal just because he is gettingn primary PK time
