Old man Cherry didn't see that Pronger pushed Backes into Brodeur?

Who cares, the contact was outside the crease anyway, Backes has just as much right to that spot as Brodeur.

You do realise the fan590 took bits and pieces of what he said from his radio show?

I'm so happy we switched to CTV, so we don't have to listen to that fossil anymore.

Well, not for another few days, anyways, lol

In Brodeur/Devils land, a player should be called for interference if they occupy "a space on the ice that Marty likes to go to".

Did he really just complain about Marty getting knocked down. Wasn't it Pronger who was the one who knocked him over.

Q.F.T.

I remember this same kind of outrage when Jussi Jokinen made contact with Marty outside the crease on the way to the front of the net, space he was entitled to, and tipped that puck home with 0.2 seconds to play in the playoffs last year.

Not trying to pile on, but Marty thinks he owns the crease, the back of the net, and as far out of his net he wants to go.

They had to put a trapezoid out there just to shut Marty up... It's a place of peace for the rest of the NHL, no Marty *****ing about contact or what area is his there

That is not correct.
Quote:
595 - PROTECTION OF GOALKEEPERS
a) In all cases in which an attacking player initiates any contact with the goalkeeper, other than incidental contact, when the goalkeeper is inside the goal crease and whether or not a goal is scored, the attacking player shall be assessed the appropriate penalty.

b) A goalkeeper is not “fair game” just because he is outside of the goal crease. The penalty shall be assessed in every case where an attacking player makes unnecessary contact with the goalkeeper. Incidental contact shall be permitted when the goalkeeper is in the act of playing the puck outside his goal crease provided the attacking player made a reasonable effort to avoid unnecessary contact.

NEW
➤ 3. If an attacking player has been pushed, shoved or fouled by a defending player so as to cause him to come into contact with the goalkeeper, such contact shall not be deemed to be initiated by the attacking player, provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact with the goalkeeper.

➤ 4. However, where an attacking player stands in the goal crease, play shall be stopped and a face-off shall take place in the nearest face-off spot in the Neutral Zone.
If the official determined Backes was pushed into Brodeur and made a reasonable effort to avoid contact, then it is not considered initiated by Backes so no penalty.

That is incorrect. Donald S. Cherry is not "close to senile" - he has been senile for the past several years.

Lol, Don Cherry is 76. You guys are calling him senile? He's a very smart hockey guy. He predicted an Anaheim Ottawa final a few years ago before the season began. You guys wish you could be as sharp as him at his age.

Some of the most annoying people are people who bash cherry just for having a different opinion than them.

Well the Canadian player was pushed too and they called it a penalty. I think that's his point.
