Nashville's Direction (GM GAME Acquired Kristian Huselius)

Hiya Nashville fans,

I'm in a trade deadline GM game and have the honour of being your GM

My thoughts were to try and secure a #1 or #2 center. Is Legwand a legit top 6 center or is he more a serviceable top 6 who's better suited for a 3rd line role? If I could find some scoring wingers who are available, preferably younger guys I'd be happy.

My assessment is that you guys needed a center and some scoring while your assets are solid goaltending and lots of depth at D.

Don't want to trade too many roster players seeing as you are in the middle of a playoff race but I figure I'm going to try and trade Hamhuis (what do you guys expect to get for him if he's traded?) and probably Ellis (Make Rinne starter for the rest of the year).

Just wondering what you guys think of my assessment, trying to keep this accurate.

Thanks

Scoring winger.

Legwand is #2 center, or can be.

Agreed, scoring depth on the wings and a veteran d-man is what's needed.

Arnott, Legwand, O'Reilly, Goc, Wilson, and Smithson can all play center at the NHL level...

Just thought I'd keep you guys who are interested updated on the moves I'm making as Nashville's GM the game i'm participating in.

Just traded Wade Belak and Tampa's 5th round pick to Boston for
Andruw Bodnarchuk, Boston's 6th round pick 2010, and Boston's 6th round pick 2011.

feel free to offer critique or opinion.

Legwand is a 2nd line center.....Paul Kariya is the only one to really get the offense out of Leggy. But dont get me wrong I still love his playstyle

center is probably the last thing we need.

Scoring winger would be priority 1.

If you have to trade hamhuis to get a scoring winger, then bring in a veteran defensive defenseman from somewhere else to plug the hole because Sulzer isnt the answer there.

You could also trade one of the goalies, being that its just fantasy... but get a scorer with either hamhuis or ellis or dont trade them.

Hamhuis is a better defenseman than Craig Rivet who went for a first round pick + just a few seasons ago in a non-crowded market. This market is busting with teams trying to make a playoffs, and if Hamhuis was legitimately put on the market......he is easily worth a first round pick and a prospect. The problem is that the Predators would need to then go out and acquire a veteran defenseman after this trade.

Alright Nashville fans, please judge me . I've just traded Hamhuis in my GM Game. In return I recieve Rob Blake, Matt Jones, Brandon Mashinter, and Steven Zalewski.

Comments?

I like the additions of Mashinter and Zalewski, but Jones is struggling to adjust to professional hockey and Blake adds to our payroll without adding immediate scoring help...which I'm not so sure is in the cards right now...

Overall, I'll give it a B-

Blake is a UFA so his overall cap hit won't be too bad. Blake offsets the loss of Hamhuis at least somewhat and doesn't take Nashville out of the playoff race.

In the end it's three forward prospects. Zalewski is 11th in the AHL in scoring. Another underachiving Jones for Nashville to deal with. Mashinter looks good too.

I'd say B- too. Right now, Hamhuis' value I think is 1st rounder plus prospect. Rivet level maybe more.

-Lee Stempniak
-Garnet Exelby
-Alexander Ponikarovsky
-Tomas Kaberle

They're all up on the trading block....please advise (and what you would offer us)

Everybody. It's the unifying theme of Poile d-men. They can move the puck. Having said that, Suter is the best because of his ability to both skate it and pass it. Not only best on our team but one of the best in the league IMO.

Hamhuis-- soon to be gone-- excels at it.

Weber is well above average and Franson (although slower and less experienced) is headed that direction. Klien....I'd rate as usually very good but sometimes very bad as his decision-making can be bad when pressured (and he has the occasional horrid brain cramp) but he has the passing ability and the skating speed to be very, very good.

There is talk that Willie Mitchell could be out of the season with a concussion. If that is the case I can see Gillis actively pursuing Hamhuis. Would the Preds have any interest in Jannik Hansen and Michael Grabner? Hansen hasn't been given a fair shot with the Canucks, but when he has played he's been pretty good. Upside is of a solid two-way forward, probably a 40+ point guy in his prime that can provide some grit as well.

Grabner could be the scoring forward the Preds are looking for. When given a chance this season on the Canucks' 2nd line he played well. Unfortunately he got injured and lost his spot on the roster. Is ready for NHL action right now, just no spot for him with the Canucks currently.

Hi guys, made probably my final trade of the game, still trying to trade Ellis but not much interest.

Nashville Aquires:
Winger Kristin Huselius
Defenceman Milan Jurcina

Columbus Aquires:
Ryan Jones
Zach Budish
3rd round pick

Jurcina may not have much points but is playing over 18 minutes a game and is one of the few players with a positive plus/minus on their team.

I disagree that I got robbed even before Jones got waived. Jones' stats haven't been great, he has potential but every year it appears that he either doesn't fit into the system here or isin't going to reach that Potential. Budish is a great prospect, but he's still probably 3-5 years before becoming an impact player at the NHL level if he ever makes the NHL, and he's playing a position that Nashville is very deep at. a 3rd round pick is a 3rd pick, not likely to turn into an NHL player.
For that I got Huselius, who is a point producing winger who will come in leading the team in Points and a solid 4-6 defencemen who's averaging 18 minutes of icetime a game and is one of the only players on a very bad columbus team that is a positive.
