If we just get a top-4 defenseman, I would be very disappointed. It would put us back in the same boat before Mitchell got injured.

I agree Kanuck87, I think we would still be worse off, for the fact that I don't see us getting a top 4 defender better than Mitchell.

Wellwood making a last second case for the 3rd line center position with a goal and an assist. One of the best games Wellwood has played all season long.

Too little too late. I'm not getting fooled by this.

I concur. Both he and Demitra have looked terrific.

Agreed, I still wouldn't want him on my team for the playoff run. We'll need a physical, reliable, PK specialist, Faceoff winning player.

Anyone in mind?

Per TSN:
Sources tell TSN a deal is in place for forward Alexei Ponikarovsky to be traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for prospect Luca Caputi but at this point, Pittsburgh has to move a contract for salary cap reasons first.

Sources say the deal may be completed on Tuesday night. Ponikarovsky was kept out of the line-up as a healthy scratch for Toronto's home game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Who could they dump? Why not just send him to the minors instead?

TSN has a article looking at who may be in play at the deadline.
Quote:
With the league's trade deadline set for Wednesday at 3pm et/Noon pt, the clock is ticking on NHL general managers looking to make last minute changes to their respective lineups.

TSN Hockey Insiders Darren Dreger and Bob McKenzie were able to shed some light on a few of the names that could be in play leading up to that much-anticipated deadline.
Here is what they see for Vancouver:
Quote:
Vancouver GM Mike Gillis has been quiet this season. He has made one trade, and that came in the summer when the Canucks received Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich from Anaheim for Daniel Rahimi and Patrick White. With the Canucks a playoff contender at this point, and with some injury issues on the blue line, Gillis might be a GM to watch on trade deadline day.

Canucks need too much a 3rd line center and a true #1 D are a must if we're going to go deep into the playoffs. 3rd line center maybe call up Hodgson after the OHL season, #1 D is going to cost us a ***** load. Sportsnet was say Hamuis could cost overpayment like Hodgson, 1st and maybe Schneider hahahaha yeah no.

No team is perfect. You're acting like to win the cup you need the perfect team. You need a lot of the right pieces, but not all of them.

Pittsburgh last year had no wingers.

Detroit had no goalie.

Maybe I just heard him wrong, but did Doug MacLean just guarantee that Hodgson would be in play, but questioned if Toronto would have any interest in him.

Deja vu from last year: it sounds like Gillis is focusing on chasing an impending UFA defenceman whose team's asking price is probably too high.

How did Doug MacLean hold down a job? This guy is completely out to lunch. Makes Milbury look like a genius on the air!

Look at what a mess the Jackets still are after he got through with them. Their new GM isn't much better with the way he traded Gilbert Brule straight up for Raffi Torres. Maybe he'll trade us Filatov for Steve Bernier?

The only way the Canucks move Hodgson,is for a elite number 1 defenceman (Not Kaberle).

I truly believe the Hodgson being moved stuff is a media fantasy. Gillis is not giving up on a gem like Hodgson without trying to make it work next year.
