I agree unless Vlasic's injury is worse than we think and the fact that he's been seen still limping is a bit scary.

1st for Calgary's RFA d-man Ian White? At a minimum we'd get a 2nd back if he wants too much via offer sheet. At a maximum we have gotten a #3 d-man for a few years+ a playoff run.

Boyle-Wallin
Blake-Vlasic
White-Murray

Improves teams grit, offense from the backend, and he can eat 22 minutes per night. Of course it has the whole problem of what to do with the remaining 2.2 million worth of Kent Huskins (who I can actually don't mind much).

I also like Richard Park as a last touch to the the fourth line (though the trio of Staubitz, Ferrerio, or F-MAC is acceptable).

Maxim Afinegenov would be a nice pick-up for top 6 depth, but he is UFA. Ponikarovsky is a top 6 with size and speed, but his cost is a 2nd (we don't have one)+prospect, and given our 2nds are high (and would have to be a later year), our prospect would likely have to be pretty damn solid. Also Poni is a bit more expensive than we can afford, meaning Huskins or Mitchell would need to go back the other way.

Small gotcha for those contemplating deadline additions. Calgary nudged the cap last year at the deadline. Injuries in the last 10 games will not get an LTIR exemption. If they are rostering 20 or 21 and an injury occurs, they will need to do a call up within the cap room they have. Icing 15 skaters in a game during the final 10 games, like Calgary did because of injury, is not a recipe for playoff success.

I would be very disappointed in DW if he did not learn from Calgary's mistake.

I wonder if they can get rid of him, asking for a contender is pretty laughable considering his numbers this year. His definition of contender might just mean "anyone with a shot at the playoffs" though.

He is a year off of 76 points, but a 3.8 cap hit, even after reductions of 2/3rds of the season being over, is still quite a bit for what you're getting.

Clowe for Sturm?

Just to clarify, I don't hate Clowe, I actually like him, I just like Sturm's passion and speed....Plus the sheer nostalgia of it all!.

David Backes could add alot to this teams top 4 as well.

IIRC, Sturm's got multiple years left on his contract.

Clowe gets a new deal this summer.

Cap issues definitely a consideration.

2 and he has stated he will not waive. I think that would change in the case of San Jose, but the point remains.

I thought I remembered Sturm being very bitter after the trade, and I suspect that San Jose is the last place he would waive to. The trade is why he demanded an NTC in his new contract with Boston. He didn't want to go through it again. So I just can't see him waiving at all, and certainly not to come back here.

That was rumored (i.e. someone made some stuff up about not being paid money on his Wikipedia page and then being angry). I think it was just a rumor that really had no basis.

I do seem to recall hearing that he likes it in Boston though, so bitter or not he may not have any interest in leaving, even to come here (not like the guys he played with are still around at all).

Yeah I heard that too, I just don't think he was particularly bitter towards SJ. I'm not sure though, some people may be bitter after being traded.

Sturm was happy to leave San Jose because of the pressure involved at the time. He was relieved to be out of here and in a place like Boston which at the time had little to no expectations upon his arrival. He also asked for an NTC because he wanted control of his destiny like most players. He didn't get it because he got dealt. He wasn't allowed to have it at that time anyway.

I think he'd prefer to stay in one spot but if he had to waive to go anywhere but the eastern conference, I think he'd welcome a return to San Jose. I honestly believe there isn't a bitter bone in Marco Sturm's body. He's not that kind of guy.

No rumors, but looking at the pressure and frenetic pace for GMs, etc., leading up to the trade deadline.

I believe we'll stand pat and see Wilson on TV soon stating there was nothing out there that made much sense.

Garrioch looks at the needs of all 30 teams. Doesn't think the Sharks will do much to upset chemistry, but might look at a defenseman.

You give with one hand, you take away with the other.

Setoguchi is a key, key playoff player this year for us - if he can get it going, we can split the top line up if needed. If not, we're going to be very one dimensional again.

The upgrade in Hamhuis is interesting but not at that cost.

Giving up Setoguchi for a bunch of players that could walk at the end of the year is not appealing in the slightest.

Yes, let's trade Clowe, the guy who fights, scores, makes plays, goes into the corners, is strong on the boards, and has more heart than most of the guys on the team. Soon enough you folks will be hopping on the Clowe bandwagon just like the Murray one.
